The award will be presented during the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Chicago at the Awards Presentation on Thursday, August 7, at 4 p.m. in Room 23 of the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (Rosemont).
If you cannot attend the ceremony, you may name someone to accept the award for you, or I can bring it to your table at the convention. Award checks will be sent separately via U.S. Postal Service after the show.

This is actually a two-part article. This one deals with the money changes from the discovery of gold in California up to the 1855. I showed how different the money was in the south, west and northeast. How local paper money had become widespread in the East, gold in the West with foreign coins still the prominent coin in circulation in the East.
The second part will cover the panic of 1857 and how it caused distrust of paper money. It will also cover the exchange of copper and foreign silver, and the issuance of the copper-nickel cent in 1856.
