Novice asks, "Ever seen one of these?"

In late 1965, an elderly coin dealer in Hardin, Kentucky, gave me this coin. It was in a presentation box that said "In Memoriam John F. Kennedy." There was a note from the dealer inside the box with the coin that said "Kennedy Silver Crown Proof in Presentation Box 10,000 Made." It also said "The first and only crown from Shajah on the Persian coast of Arabia." The note said he purchased it from Superior Stamp & Coin Co. in Los Angeles and paid $15.00 for it. Ever seen one? Any value at all here? It has corroded over the years, so I assume the metal is less than desirable. It is 1 1/2" in diameter.

Hey I bought one like that a couple of weeks back (not the proof though) for silver value. I did a little write up on it on our online coin catalog.

I'm not a coin guy, so let me ask a question. I know you're not supposed to clean coins, but mine looks so corroded or tarnished, I can't help but think it would improve the likelihood of an eBay sale. It looks downright ugly as it is now.

I got a few of these from a consignor recently. The only real information I can give is they are .720 silver. Also, the blast white one I sold for over $40, but the one I have for sale now with toning, I have had to relist with a starting bid of $32.

I remember when they came out, Coin World had an article on them.

Nice job Judge. I suspect the presentation box is what caused it to bring such a good price. Original packaging is often lost and thus brings a premium.
