You May Be A Major US Coin Show If ...

Inspired by the fine folks over at Atlas Numismatics, I couldn't help but follow their lead and rewrite their post about European coin shows with how we go about doing things here in the 'States. All in good fun! image

    Charmy's show report includes pictures of her airline tickets, a picture from the window in the rest room on the airplane (before push away), a picture of the cab driver, a picture of her badge, her room (the bed and the bathroom), and at least three pictures each of the bourse floor, dinner, wine labels, and Rick Snow.

    11. One must include copious pictures of one's travel, booze, and coin dealer friends.

  • What can I do to get my wife hooked?

    I was perusing Coinfacts a couple years ago with my wife on the sofa and she leaned over and said a particular coin was the prettiest she'd ever seen. Unfortunately it came up to auction a few months ago and I was too distracted with work and forgot to bid image.

    You know that you're at a major coin show when:

    There are at least 6 tables with fossils and gems and minerals and at least 6 tables of jewelry and pocket watches;

    You could play a game of soccer inside the room and still have room for a decent sized show at the same time;

    The really big guys standing along the walls at 15' intervals don't smile at you when you make eye contact with them;

    The literature you pick up along the way requires a heavy-duty canvas bag to carry out;

    You see Heritage, PCGS, ICG, ANACS and NGC and they are all doing a brisk business;

    There are more than 5 kids and 10 women present;

    It takes 25 minutes to make it from your car to the registration table;

    You come out of the room crosseyed from having looked at coins for 6 straight hours;

    There are actually people present who can afford to buy the Pan Pac octagonals and the other droolicious coins that would cost the entire life savings of most of the people in the room;

    You see Gail and Liz from J. J. Teaparty and they remember who you are even though the last time you saw them was a year ago image

    You later read about at least one dealer who ended up losing a box of twenty worth 6 figures to theft, or who had his unattended inventory lifted from his car during a smash and grab while stopping for dinner on the way home after the show, again....

    Maybe they should run Coin Shows ( the big ones ) like Car Shows and hire on some models to stand by the supercoins.
    Those Octoberfest outfits on Ilsa the SS Shewolf Guard Clones would be cool. Maybe some Beer and Schnitzel would go
    well also.
