I think this board needs an unopened hall of fame thread

#1 - The PSA message board nominates a hall of fame panel consisting of five judges.

#2- The panel creates a thread where collectors can submit pics of their unopened racks/packs/cellos/boxes/cases.

#3- The panel votes on the product, and if it receives a 3-2 vote of confidence, then it is considered worthy of the PSA message board
unopened hall of fame.

#4- Other non-voting members then can complain about why a certain unopened item wasn't worthy of making the hall. image

Yeah, another thread about unopened is exactly what this site needs. There aren't enough of them yet.

There was talk a few years back of starting a "hall of fame" for contributing members. Collecting focus was irrelevant. It was more about members who go above and beyond here. It was a neat idea but it never grew legs.

And maybe more comments that assume all anyone collects are pre 1980 baseball cards. This includes comments that refer to various years of Topps or OPC assuming everyone knows they are referencing baseball not football or hockey.

It's a well known fact that when you are using hyperbole to form a joke, that you should use a prime number (i.e., 113). It's much funnier. If you had said "...for the 113th time", I would have laughed. 118 didn't even make me crack a smile.

I like this idea. I know there are some amazing unopened collections out there that newer members probably have not seen. I've built my collection slowly but surely over the years. Remember Macrosb's photos? Holy!

Tony, Joseph Kennedy got out of the stock market in September '29 when his shoeshine boy was giving him stock tips.
I got out in 2000 when a couple of friends were taking credit card advances to make a quick thousand to pay bills.
Agreed that the speculative frenzy on unopened is starting to look like irrational exuberance. Hopefully no one gets overextended and things collapse.

the unfortunate thing is that we had a really good unopened forum on the ebay boards about 6-7 years ago, but it eventually died due to lack of interest and participation. Guess it was just ahead of its time.

I wonder where his stash ended up. I sold a few '71 cellos to him that I wonder what happened to them. One with Bench and another with Perry showing. Anyone seen them around?

He sold virtually all of his packs through Mile high back in (IIRC) 2007. I bought a couple, including my GAI 7.5 69 blue-wrappered 10c cello pack and a few 1970 wax and jumbo cello packs.

I bought a '58 nickel pack from that auction, and a '57 nickel pack directly from him.
He was convinced the market was about to collapse. Instead '50's and '60's packs have all but disappeared from the marketplace.

I wonder why he thought that. Maybe he was concerned about fake packs driving people out of that segment of the hobby. You're right about 50s packs. My collection stops at 1960 in terms of wax and it'll be unlikely I can extend that much further back.

As I recall, he became disillusioned with GAI grading packs (this was right around the Ryan Rutter era) and believed the market would fall apart. He was fairly steadfast about that coming to fruition, actually.

I remember that rip. For the record it was a completely legit pack. Just goes to show than even if you bought and opened in 1969 you werent guaranteed to pull any hall of famers or stars

Totally cool rip and a 10 out of 10 on entertainment value...bummer on no high value cards...you'd be great and doing live rips with your daughters...maybe a new career?

That is funny. Your daughters are trying so hard to be excited for you, and then you're pulling Nellies and Bullwinkles. Not who we wanted!!! Then, they're gone in a flash.

Once, I tried to show my kids a card or two from my collection. "Dad, this is boring. Can we go to the park?"
