Post 1995 Doubled Dies

There has been some ferocious debate ( I admit I can be ferocious in their defense ) as to whether these are Doubled Dies.

These are what the "Attributors" and "Scholars" call "Class VIII" doubled dies

Now since the "Single Squeeze" die production method does not require a second impression by the hub, should these be called doubled dies?

Or should an alternate term be used? If so, what should they be called?

This market is so thin that it makes no sense to collect, other than for pure pleasure. Almost all cents
have multiple dies used during the year that make things interesting, but that's all.
Check "coppercoins.com" if you don't already know this.

Many, many listed differences but very little value.

They are doubled die for sure, the question is if they are exciting enough to elicit any sort of collector and dealer backing. Remember there are dramatic widely spaced doubled dies that don't elicit much fan fare. Popularity is a combination of demand and publicity, not having traditional wow factor effects both.

Just because the old spectacular errors are no longer made doesn't mean the lesser variants get promoted to fill the gap.

Au contraire

I agree that the hub does not make contact with the die on two separate impressions.

I also believe there is a place for these in Numismatics by those whose choose to collect them.

I think a new terminology is required. That is the reason for this post.

They are doubled dies, just a different class.

Everyone has different interest. Someone might say all modern coins are boring or anything not classic is boring, everyone can collect what they like.

I like that varieties can be found in change or cherry picked like a treasure hunt.
I'm sure it's the similar with all types of collectors, their cherry pick might be based on grade or finding an example of what they want or toning. However you enjoy the hobby, it's a treasure hunt and enjoyment.

SSNMD ( Single Squeeze Non Mechanical Doubling) is what they are as in the Lincoln formative years and the 2014 recently discovered. The doubling may be less pronounced but the mechanism that produces them is much more rare than a dual pressed coin. That should be one of the considerations. Crypto your point is very valid as support for these new errors needs to be improved and the process and raity of their production needs to be discussed and published in print in books such as the CPG along with seminars from experts such as yourself at major coin shows.

I tend not to be interested in a DD coin unless I can clearly see the doubling with my naked eye....ala the '55 DD Lincoln.

Since the '55 era is over, gone forever. What do we call the post 1995 Doubled Dies?
