… it's not a "one ounce Gold coin", per se, but the plastic adds a little weight. ("wait" until I remember my photo bucket password, anyway )

First question, is it 999 fine, 900 fine, or something else ?
If the total weight is 31.1 grams, that would imply 999 fine (which would rule out a Krugerrand since those are 900 fine and weigh more than 31.1 grams).
A portable XRF gun test would reveal the elemental composition.

The first Chinese 1-troy-oz gold Pandas were minted in 1982.

I don't have any way to test the fineness. Weight comes in as 31.2 grams on my scale. I'm prepared to believe that my scale is off by at least one unit in the last digit.
I'd love to get a portable XRF gun, but I don't love the idea so much that I'm willing to spend $20K to do it.

And they also have a diameter of 32.05 mm. My blank planchet is 1.2 mm larger. The planchet can't be larger than the struck piece, so that can't be it.

Could it possibly be a Canadian maple? When did they start minting those? Maybe and Engelhard gold prospector?

Gold Maple Leaf diameter is 30 mm, so no-go on that. I'm having a hard time finding the diameter of the Gold Prospector, but one site says 34 mm, which would work. The earliest date I can find for one is 1975, which would also work. Does anyone have one handy to confirm the diameter? Thanks -- my best lead yet!
