Can You Tone Coins in an Easy-Bake Oven?

A grizzled, old coin veteran claimed to me that he learned to tone coins as a child in his sister's E-Z bake oven. I am not sure that he wasn't kidding.

    yes it can work same as sticking a coin on a light bulb as that is what the old units used because of the heat output.

    Lots of the AT coins you see on eBay are created this way (not necessarily with an Easy Bake, but an oven of some sort). They spritz some chemicals on the coin's surface and let it cook for awhile.

    Sure, why not? You could tone a coin with just about any heat source.

    SAE's at the same time?

    Wouldn't that be a meal to remember!

    When you try it put a banana peeling in there with the coin and afterwards
    scrap the dried inside part of the peeling on to a zig zag paper role it up
    and smoke it. The coin will look cool, lots of colors.

    You can also put coins on the roof of the garage.

    Not much different than putting a coin in a cardboard holder, sticking it in the window for a few months..........but faster. image

    While there are many ways you can tone a coin, the only legitimate reason to do so is to know what AT coins look like.

    If you can find a way to quickly tone a coin that looks like what is market acceptable (stored in a coin album for along time or what not), what's the difference?

    JustMe2 that is always an argument done slowly without your knowledge is worth money done quickly with your knowledge is worthless, so done slowly with your knowledge should be worthless but it's not. As the coin turns colors from contaminants in the air and surfaces that the coin is in contact with over a long period of time those colors/contaminants lay on the surface at differing thicknesses causing the light to refract/reflect much differently than a coin that was contaminated/oxidized in a fast time frame. All colors on a coin are contamination/oxidation and not a natural part of the coins surface as minted. The main issue is how the current market has determined values for this surface contamination, coins that have been contaminated/oxidized over a long period of time are valuable because of the time it took to get all the different subtle layers.

    That make me think of the next curved coin theme. On the convex side you have a big fat chocolate chip cookie and on the concave side a big open mouth. Of course we will have to wait for a big anniversary of the cookie.
    Gold and silver are valuable but wisdom is priceless.
