Not sure our host would agree with that designation.

There was an auction a few years ago that had a bunch of prooflike Columbians, all hoarded by the same guy.

I have a certain affinity for the Colombian commemorative. Well before I got involved in the hobby/business, a coin gallery owner showed me a nice example of this coin with an $8000 price tag. I loved the coin design, but he was of by a zero, maybe two, even in 1989 when prices were soaring.

The dies used to make the Proofs were also used to make business strikes.

Yeah as i recall prices for a MS65 & MS66's were far higher then today. This issue was hoarded as it was marketed heavily investment wise back then with expectations of explosive price jumps once the centennial occurred. It was really tough to find a nice example with 1992 closing in, but by 95 they were everywhere as pricing never soared.

NGC has only graded 3 and the couple I've seen had no contrast. I wish I had seen it I would have gone $500.

I was out at $220... looked PL for sure from the photos... but wasn't willing to go too crazy just based on photos. If this were in a normal auction w/ lot viewing and it really is a deep-mirror, I'm sure it would have sold for $500+
