I can't believe there were that many "ill advised" bidders. Amazing.

  • The scratched off word copy on the left wing is very visible, the pics are bad but you can see and the seller would not provide me with better pics lol, I wounder why. This is most likely a tribute proof....

    Negative BST: NONE!
  • You can still report sold coins and ebay will send a note to the buyer telling them the coin is bad...

hey Cheezhed are you in Wisconsin?
  • Many people here and on other boards have complained about the existence of CCW, the Coin Community Watch program. This meant that when you reported a counterfeit or a crook, the report was sent to a small group of experts for consideration and if there was agreement the listing would be cancelled and in the case of repeat offenders, their accounts would be suspended. Those who complained about CCW were often the sellers of counterfeits or those who disagreed with a decision and demanded to know more about the CCW advisers' credentials. Some regarded the system as flawed but most agreed that it was better than nothing.

    Now there is nothing.

eBay has systematically made it more and more difficult for honest but ignorant buyers and easier for unscrupulous sellers because it has worked out that few victims realise their ignorance until they try to sell the counterfeit they bought on eBay and by then they will be out of time to make a claim through eBay/PayPal and so eBay's profits will increase. These were the steps along the way

    1. Stop bidders seeing who they are bidding against

    2. Hide the winner's ID so that the victims can not be tipped off after a listing ends

    3. Hide the item information in an individual's feedback so that you cannot tell them that they bought a piece of garbage.

    and now:

    4. Ignore every report that comes in about counterfeits and crooks.

Yes, number 4 is correct because CCW has been broken up and is no more: your reports are simply vanishing into a big black hole.

So, it's a free-for-all for Chinese scammers and all other seller's of counterfeits and it's buyer beware because nobody else is going to look after you.

If you, like me, used to bid up the rubbish to protect the unwary or ignorant and used to "win" items, expecting eBay to respond to reports and cancel the listing, you can now expect a reminder from the automated system or from an illiterate underpaid kid that you have to buy the item. If you used to email sellers about their problematic coin, expect a warning from an illiterate eBay kid, accusing you of "email abuse", with threats of account closure.

If you are an unscrupulous PNG member - eBay is in bed with PNG - or any type of crook, you will be welcomed on eBay and in time, you will achieve Top Seller status.

As the specialist eBay staff also dealt with stamps, philatelists are about to discover the latest strategy change and how it benefits eBay and nobody else.

So, for numismatists and philatelists, there is no SAFETY and nothing can be TRUSTed.

can anyone verify this? are reported coins not being pulled?
  • lostincoinslostincoins Posts: 4,278
Wow the coin I posted was never pulled and that is bad we need to check on the coins being reported. If ebay is not doing anything about them after notification are they in violation of the Hobby protection act?

Winning bid was a 2 second snipe. I wonder if it was a nuke bid from someone who knows it's fake.
