somewhere in the $1200 area. pretty much the only way to break even is to pull a gem mint Jordan. I don't see the price on unopened 87-88 skyrocketing in the near future neither. 87-88 just isn't a widely collected or desired set, which is unfortunate as it's one of my favorite basketball sets ever.
Pretty sure the last time BBCE had them, they were $1600-$1700. It was a much better deal in the $1100-$1200 range. They say there were less produced of these than the 86-87 set and you still get 2-3 of each card (including stickers).
Due to the disastrous lack of interest in 1986, Fleer cut back production in 1987so there were much less produced. It's a great set-from the card design, the card stock, the pictures, etc.
But the reality is that there isn't a big demand for hockey outside of Gretzky or basketball outside of Jordan. Even all the 1986F rookies are leveling off---Ewing, Barkley, Malone, Olajuwon, etc. so in 1987 you have a bunch of. 2nd year cards no one cares about

Thanks for the info everyone. $2k+ just seems too much for what you get. I have always liked these cards, but it looks like I have missed the boat. I just bought a box of '88-'89 which I think has a much bigger upside especially at today's prices and it has some good RC's. John Stockton is one of my all-time favorite players and I wish his RC was in the '87-88 instead of '88-'89. Why is the '87-88 so high? Is it just the print reduction? Do you think I am right about the '88-89 potential? Will the '89-90 fleer ever increase? I assume it was way over-produced but does it have any potential with a few decent RC's?
88-89 is a good set/box imo, still a little lower print run than everything after it... great rookies too. I pulled the trigger on an 87 box a few years ago at bbce, but they ended up not having it in stock. Out of my range now, so I settle for packs instead.
The seller of the box on eBay loves to keyword spam BBCE and PSA 10 in his listings. It is pretty annoying. Almost none are actually BBCE wrapped (not that it matters given his crazy pricing). In my opinion, $2400 is too high for a box that isn't BBCE wrapped and has no decent rookie cards. $2K on a good day.

Using all that keyword spam makes the listing seem shady, imo, or annoying at the very least. If what you have is legit, you don't need to add "Topps" or "BBCE" or "PSA 10" for an item for which none of those terms apply.

<< <i>What's the going price one of these? What would you think is a good buy price? Thanks! >>
I paid $ 1350 plus shipping August 2012. So maybe $1400-$1500 now. i think $2400 is a bit high but who knows what someone will pay in this market
