HOF Grading results thread.

SwampboySwampboy Posts: 12,906 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well I've been eyeing the pops to see how the grades are coming in for the HOF coins. There are some informative results getting posted in Goldbully's HOF thread but what I'm interested in seeing is how my forum friends are making out.

Feel free to post your results while I anxiously anticipate mine (rec'd 4/14 at PCGS).

Mine were also received on 4/14, 9:40am, at PCGS. Status was "OK" yesterday. Checking just now shows trouble displaying orders. These and order history is not visible. Will check later.

(Already posted this in the HOF thread...)

Had mine done ATS. I wasn't sure I was going to even send them in until I inspected the sliver/clad. The gold unc came the next day, and they went out that afternoon. Sure do wish I had ordered the gold proof with this order...

Yes, very happy with results. When I receive them, I will sell off enough
to recover costs. Then save some for my collection! Looking over E-bay
not to many gold PCGS FS have sold or are for sale. I will most likely
list one of the 70's in an action for a week just to see were it goes?

The reason not too many FS's are on Ebay is because you are one of the first to get your grades back. Wait 2 weeks and you will see plenty. So you could score by listing before the flood.

<< <i>Would be interested to see photos of what exactly the difference between 69 and 70 actually areimage or 68 for that matter >>

I do not own any graded coins as yet, but I would like to see 3 like coins, a 68,69, and a 70 graded coin (of any coin type) side by side in a photo denoting by arrows, the various differences between the 3 levels of those respective grades. I asume the 70 would be flawless, but what would seperate it from the 69 grade? Anyone care to indulge this novice in this request?

This would make a super photo grading book of actual slabbed coins from 70 to low 60's. I once suggested that for an extra fee a grading diagram like is done for diamonds and gems showing the flaws that determined the grade. It was shot down roundly here. I still think it is a good idea.

I have looked at them side by side in the past and I can`t tell why the one
graded 69 did not get 70.. but I can tell why the 68 got a 68...

Although I logged in just before noon on the 27th, I got thrown into the waiting room and was not able to place my order until 01:18. The clads I ordered came a few weeks back, the silver just this week, so those are now in a box somewhere between me an PCGS. I was in such a hurry to get them out I barely even glanced at the silvers!

As to the gold, my order still says "in process" and "3 units backordered. Expected to ship on 06/21/2014". I have no reason whatsoever to believe that, of course. I've heard from other people who had similar dates and their gold shipped this week, so who knows?

I would have liked to have the gold in time for that oh so meaningful "First Strike" label, but that window is closing fast. I'm thinking that non-numismatic folks are going to get confused by "First Pitch" and "First Strike" and thereby keep the First Strike prices higher at least for a while.

On the other hand, why do I care? After they come back from PCGS, these are going to have a long nap in a little steel box and may not see daylight again until my children inherit them. By then, First Strike could be as unimportant as First Spouse.

I received my gold HOF Submission back from PCGS today. The new slabs were delivered in the standard
blue PCGS boxes, but they will not fit in the slots. So PCGS shippers turned them side ways in the box
for shipping. I wonder if they will be coming out with new boxes in the future?

    I think so!

I have observed the (ebay) prices on non-graded silver coins has continued to increase. I would expect the prices to reach some equilibrium between the number of sellers & buyers over the next few months. Over the short term I would not be surprised to see prices actually go down. (As many more sellers enter the market whenever the mint ships the balance of the 400,000 silver coins.)
Eventually the supply of coins will diminish due to the finite supply, then I would expect the prices to increase. I don't have enough experience to predict when this might happen, but based on initial demand & a limited supply I expect this will eventually happen.
Since it looks like the VAST majority of silver coins will not be shipped until after the FS cutoff date then I would think the graded coins will experience a similar price fluctuation. If I had some coins that I intended to sell then I would definitely send them in.

(NOTE: I am a newb to coins & might be way of base with my observations.)

Noticing the raw $5 golds are steadily creeping up on ebay too. Now in the $825-$850 range.

Is that sustainable or is it just because majority of the gold orders haven't been shipped yet?image

wow unbelievable a proof just hammered for BIN $959... they were going for around $800 just a week or so ago.

I know this coin has been mentioned in Sports Illustrated a couple of times, so maybe the non coin collectors who are baseball diehards want this badly.

I like to analize things so I looked at the ebay auctions over $ 900 yesterday and today and almost

all of them have the same person as the high bidder. Could be someone be buying them up for somebody

or somebody going long on a hunch.

just checked again and bidding is getting heated up. three auctions ending later today already up to $900 - $ 950

will this taper off or pust the PR70's higher ? lot of PCGS coins being graded right now from what I hear.

Yeah, I saw that the odds were looking good for 70's Goldbully.

Kinda surprised I didn't get one but I'm still pleased to add the three coins to my collection and I have a few others to stash away for a rainy day.
I spent my whole war chest on these coins and the grading so now I have to start saving up all over again for the $10 Indian I've been searching for at local shows.

% of 70's is much higher. Price per 70 isn't much lower.

I don't understand the price structure of the first strike quarterly special.

It states $39 per First Strike Coin, but without the Quarterly Special price its modern at $16 and First Strike at $18 which makes $34 which is cheaper than the Quarterly Special. Is PCGS getting rid of the $8 handling fee. I don't see what is "special" about the quarterly special other than the label has baseballs behind it? Also did PCGS charge you to return the mint boxes?
