<< <i>This reminds me of those threads that appear just before Halloween where someone asks about passing out coins in holders to the trick-or-treaters. I point out that it isn't a good idea to let everyone in your neighborhood know that you collect coins since some of these kids may have older brothers with a drug habit. Usually, there were a few forum members that called me paranoid but I say why take the chance? I feel the same way about advertising that you are a coin collector on a vanity plate on your car---why take the chance? >>

Life is too short. I'm more comfortable in my skin believing that even the most sophisticated thief in my area has no clue what a 66FBL is, than worrying about maybe he does know. And even if he does know, he probably doesn't like Frankies anyway!

Besides, they aren't in my back seat, they are in the safe deposit box. >>

Obviously the more obscure the vanity plate is the less likely it will draw attention. You may not have coins in your back seat but most people park their car in front of their home and keep some coins in their home.

My son's father-in-law got a vanity plate a few years ago. In our state you have to select five choices in the order of preference and they give you the first choice that hasn't already been taken. He came up with four really good selections and put down gibberish for the fifth choice figuring he's get at least one of the first four. Guess which one he got.image

<< <i>This reminds me of Michael Jordan's dad's license plate that said "UNC0023". He was killed and the license plates were stolen.
There are some things that shouldn't be advertised. ....at least at your own risk >>

Police don't think the license plates had anything to do with it: http://www.nytimes.com/1993/08/16/sports/two-men-are-charged-with-murder-of-jordan.html

A perfect combination would be an "I (heart) Coins" license plate with at bumper sticker that says "People Against Fire Arms".

Now that would be an invitation.

We've used a vanity plate on some rather fast cars that read AVOVOOM. Sadly, not a lot of slow drivers in front of us got it.

Bumper stickers and front-yard signs proclaim my fondness for cash, gold, diamonds, drugs, guns, and high end electronics, but they don't mention numismatic coins specifically.

I always wanted one but decided against it. Just like I had a cool one picked out for my profession as a nurse. But the last thing I want people to know is that I'm a coin collector or I'm a nurse. "Hey look at this? what do you think it is?" Ugh.

Now my tattoo in the future, totally nursing related. But it's covered.
WTB: Eric Plunk cards, jersey (signed or unsigned), and autographs. Basically anything related to him

Positive BST: WhiteThunder (x2), Ajaan, onefasttalon, mirabela, Wizard1, cucamongacoin, mccardguy1

    Negative BST: NONE!
