Spinaker, the Wood's Hibernia coinage was not really Irish. They were minted in England by an English businessman who intended them to br used in Ireland. He failed in this and they were used somewhat in America.

Until colonies like Massachusetts-Bay started banning their use and issued their own little shaped paper money to drive them out of circulation. They were not even popular in America - despite the usual dearth of coinage that existed then.

Limerick halfpenny from 1691 - the last struck coinage bearing the image of James II - these were overstruck on withdrawn gunmoney coins. This example has reversed N in Hibernia. When William and Mary's rule extended into Ireland after the geese flew away these coins were quickly demonetized and withdrawn from circulation.

Not really a pretty halfpenny, but a rather rare date. They were struck late in the year ie January of 1684(1685 in the calendar we use now) and then the King gave up the ghost so no more coins were struck with his portrait. Found this little charm in a $3 junk box.

I ordered two of the Ireland 1966 Patrick Pearse 10-shilling silver coins from the
Central Bank of Ireland, they were sent to me via registered mail, and arrived in
California on June 6, 1966 (6-6-66).

Still walking. The teeth didn't do so well, on the other hand. More than half of 'em are gone now.

Here's a 1943 Irish florin dreamcoin. One of only about four MS survivors, per JSL's site.

I had the '43 halfcrown (an ex-PCI photoslab F15), but never the florin.
