Interesting news. I love that PCGS does these for us but I wish I could use one sometime. It's been about three years for me.
FWIW, "perk" is to become more cheerful, or stick out jauntily. "Perq" is a fringe benefit or bonus (short for perquisite).

Sadly, common misuse becomes acceptable.
How about a quarterly special for copper or silver, pre-civil war? Or something like that.

You're not alone. I have't been able to participate in the Quarterly Special since they changed the format. The very restrictive requirements often "shut me out." By restrictive, I mean: only good for Kennedy halves, only good for Buffalo nickels, only good if you have four coins to submit, etc.
I don't collect moderns, so this upcoming Quarterly Special doesn't help me at all. I collect Dahlonega gold, bust halves, Carson City type coins, a few classic commems, and key dates. The problem is that I never have more than one or two at a time that need PCGS service, so the "send in four, pay for three" rarely works for me.
A possible solution would be to try and be less restrictive and allow flexibility in the number of coins required. For example, a coin with an American President on it is less restrictive than a Roosevelt dime; a coin with an eagle on it is less restrictive than a no motto half eagle. Similarly, a freebie on a quarterly special, with no quantity requirement, would work better for everyone. For example, if you send in one coin, the service is free. I'd you send in two coins, one of them is free. If you send in three coins, one is free. This approach accommodates those with one coin to grade, as well as those with multiple coins, who want to combine the shipping cost.
I don't mean to sound like a complainer, but it bothers me that before the change I was occasionally able to participate in the Quarterly Special and lately, try as I might, I can't participate because I don't have the right coins or the required minimum number of coins.
Presumably, First Strike will be limited to within 30 days of release and presumably, First Strike will also require the additional $18 per coin charge?
If so, why show nothing but First Strike slabs?

For me if they ended I would not even notice. I guess they think most of the nice 19th century coins are slabbed?
May they should try a get 10 and pay for 5 economy special for circulated everyman's sets and try to get some people to start more registry sets.
