you can make your own light box out of foam board for under $8.00

you could use some leds from Ikea or target so as not to have issues with heat and you can controll the lighting through diffusion or even rig up an in line dimmer switch etc....

The lights are LED, there are two 7 inch strips, wired in series.
If you can find them, they will cost you between 15 and 30 bucks each retail.
