My First Topps '54 And All I Can Say Is WOW!!

I know I don't contribute on the boards like I once did. It seems like the only time I get on the boards is to try and sell something or show the boards my recent pickup. Anyway I do want to share with the forum this beauty. I believe this card looks like a solid 7 or even an 8, but the back of the card knocks it down to the 5 that it is. I do want to thank Jeff (Card Country) who sold me the card.

Congratulations Bobby! That's as sweet a "5" as one would ever hope to see (or own!)

I'm going to deploy some devious tactics.....that card looks terrible, you should get rid of it now, sell it at once, it's overgraded. I'll take it off your hands to end this agony. I'm willing to help out. How much do you want for it?image

AWESOME purchase Bobby ... you are not going to see too many "5s" presenting better than that!

Thanks guys, I do appreciate it. The back looks like it has wax on it, but I can't tell. It's some type of substance. Is wax common for '54's? Would it be wise to crack or not?

The spots that the stain are on look common to a card that was glued to an album and then removed.
I think they are glue stains

You have a beautiful card-- why talk about cracking it? Already looking to sell? You know it's great; we're all telling you it's great. Would it be any better to you, in your collection, if it said 5.5 on it? Any CARD collector will tell you that you have a fantastic example of the Aaron RC with eye appeal that exceeds the numerical grade. That's awesome.

I personally would never risk the damage of cracking, or risk putting a beloved collection piece in transit again, just to see the sticker change and make a few hundred theoretical dollars on a card I have no intention of selling. Even beyond risk versus reward, if it's a collection piece, enjoy what your eyes and gut and fellow collectors say over a number on a sticker.
