Be upset or just suck it up?

BroadstruckBroadstruck Posts: 30,497 ✭✭✭✭✭
So the other day a piece of exonumia arrived a few days late that I paid $20.00 for next day air shipping.

Although I'd have no issue if the $15.40 difference between 1st class self insured had been tacked onto the cost of the item.

The principle of having been gouged on shipping charges has been eating away at my frugal nature.

I see no harm in contacting the seller and inquiring why the delay when you paid extra for overnight shipping. If it was the shipper's fault, they should reimburse you for part of the shipping. If it was the courier's fault, then they will make the seller whole and the seller should reimburse you. If it was a weather related issue, then it's no one's fault and there's really nothing that can be done.

Did they charge for next day and then send it first class? Or did they charge for next day, then wait two days, then send it next day?

If it was the fault of the Post Office, I would certainly file a complaint but if it was the shipper that did everything right
then the refund would have to go through them and then be passed along to you.
That would be a pain and I would likely just ignore it so as to not strain future buying opportunities.

If it was the shipper that you paid the extra $15 to and they shipped it slower....
and you might do business with them again....I would politely point out the oversight and request a refund of the $15.

Actually just having checked my email correspondence...

We had agreed at a price ending in $80 shipped and I opted to toss another $20 to round it off and get it the next day.

It was sent out via 1st class with just delivery confirmation.

So actually it's $20 and in the realm of this hobby it's a pretty petty amount and might have very well just been an oversight image

If the correspondence is clear, I would ask for a refund. That is a huge % of the overall cost.

Bottom line; if you're offering next-day shipping, you had better ship no later than the next day. If you're not prepared to do that, don't offer next-day service. You don't wait a couple of days and then ship next-day.

    Cheers,

No brainer, in my opinion. Contact the seller and they will make it right. Probably an oversight on their part and I'm sure they'll gladly refund you for the extra shipping charge.

the transaction was for the coin and added 20 bucks for next day shipping. You do have the coin so that part is concluded and done. The later though is not , as you had a deal for next day shipping and did not get that. The fault is the seller did not attempt to provide the service maybe a simple error. I would email and ask for that adjustment or refund as it was not fulfilled for whatever reason. Things happen mistakes are a given with the human element , I would assume the seller will agree after being made aware of this issue that was of no fault of your own.

from the 20.00 postage it sounds like you requested overnight delivery, if you received the package the day after it shipped no problem but if it took 3 days to get I'd request a refund of the difference. Like buying a coin or any other service it matters not what the seller pays as long as I get what I pay for.

    You requested a certain service.
They agreed AND took your money for that service.
They did NOT use that service but still kept your money.

I would be slightly perturbed and would request a refund. I would also look to see if they are a big outfit (ie....one hand may not have talked to the other hand and mistakes are made) or a small one (where the communication should have been instant). That would tell me if I really wanted to deal with them in the future or not as mistakes may continue to happen.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

In these types of situations I am usually upset for a few minutes, contemplate the options, and do nothing. It ain't worth the time and aggravation. What's done is done, and the best case scenario in confronting the person is worst than what would happen if you do nothing. You got the item and your time is more valuable than the $20.

So, be upset AND suck it up

It only takes 1-3 minutes of your time to send an email. That's worth your time. And this is more about not getting a service that was paid for. The seller received an extra 20%. We should all be so "lucky."

Now, if this item is worth a LOT more than the $80 you won it for....I'd probably just suck it up and let bygones be bygones. image

it could have been $10,880. Anyway, what's a couple of days? I've never understood the hurry to get a coin. You got it, you like it, I'd let it go.

Why did you start this thread BEFORE you contacted the seller? There's a very good chance the seller just made a simple mistake and he will apologize and refund some money.

Because they paid for a service they didn't receive. they paid for overnight and the seller sent 1st class. It's the OP's prerogative to why they wanted overnight. No way should they shouldn't let bygones be bygones. I'd be pretty pissed at the car wash if I paid for a wash, tires and a vacuuming and all they did was a budget rinse of the outside.

I have no problem "understanding" that Broadstruck was bothered by the fact that he paid for next day delivery yet only received 1st Class Postage. Regardless of when the coin was delivered, it bothered "him".

IMO, nothing to suck up other than getting a refund on what he paid for yet did not receive.

it's not an issue of frugality. if you agreed to $20 for next day air shipping...then you should have received next day air shipping. you honored your part of the agreement, and it seems the other party did not. it's pretty cut and dried. if the post office screws up and the package is late, that's a totally separate issue that you might have to overlook.
