For these three small coins to look that magnificent from pics this large is astounding.

Especially the trime.
You tend to forget how tiny it actually is.

I think the IHC is perfect but I am not a fan of the toning patterns on the other two but admit I can see why others are.

All are GREAT specimens and the toning is superb on all. The IHC has toned the colors of Black Hills gold. Might be some slight rub on the ribbon and hair, but might not be noticible in hand.

It was in for a TrueView/Reconsideration at the last show, but this coin was not to be reconsidered. But I thought I'd shoot it through the holder anyway since it was a condition census candidate and it looked pretty. Through-The-Holder shots will be a rare occurrence, but not a regular thing.

I entertained the idea of doing more Through-The-Holder shots, then I realized we didn't really want the liability of polishing customer's slabs.

Why was this shot through the holder? It's a condition census coin that deserved a fabulous TrueView pic, but not at the risk of cracking out a small fragile gold dollar that's not an upgrade candidate:

I think it's amazing that Phil could capture such a high resolution image from such a diminutive coin!

IIRC the MS69 G$1 Cardinal pictured for us belonged to Gordie Wrubel about 25 years ago. I prefer the Akers coin from last month's FUN auction (see HA archives). Again IIRC, I watched Dave pay about $15,000 for it in a 1985 Stacks sale.

This date is the most common (pop 3) of all gold $1's of any type in MS69. You don't see a sentence like that very often . .

How about a TrueView shot through an NGC holder. Now that's got to be a rare one... Not sure what the story is, but I saw this one while perusing CoinFacts the other day.
