    This is a screencap from a local news station last Saturday. I don't think the windchills were officially that low on Sunday, but it felt pretty cold outside the Metrodome- waiting and waiting and waiting for the NFL security. It just looks pretty ridiculous to see numbers like that. image

    I did, however, spend some time today pouring over some token books which I have not done in some time. image

    I've always been amused by such comments regarding relative weather conditions from across the country. Here in Maine we have come up with a few, ourselves:

    Mission accomplished

    Zach's first fish is a Lizard Fish from San Diego Bay.

    So I take his catch, and I use it for live bait for a halibut.

    I get hit hard and farmed it, dang. So I missed a huge halibut and lost my son's first fish in the process image oooops

    A very fun day .....

    High of about 68-70° here today in my part of So. Ca. Supposed to be 50 MPH wind gusts tonight-Monday though + fire warnings because it's so dry. Plus, we're sitting right over the San Andreas Fault here, so there's always a potential earthquake threat looming underneath our feet. image
    Every state and climate has its pros and cons.

    In the Tampa Bay area it made it to a cool 72 this afternoon. I'm pretty sure in the next few days we'll be in the freezing temps though according to the weatherman.

    I just checked the temp. It's a bone chilling -21 in lovely MN. I heard the house make strange noises last night as the temp dropped.

    I'm in central North Dakota. At times like this I really question why I voluntarily live in central North Dakota. I don't care to know the current temperature as it is depressing.

    Southern California has been even warmer than usual for early winter for the past several weeks,
    inland a few miles from the Pacific, clear and sunny daytime temperatures are in the low 70's with light breezes,
    at night down into the high 40's. We played outside all day in shorts and bare feet yesterday.

    Even the windows have frost on them - on the inside of the house. Furnace cannot keep up, and we have the fireplace going. At least we have power, lots of people lost theirs yesterday.

    Was 16° here in Southeast Ga this morning with a windchill supposedly in the mid-single digits. The highs today are in the low-30's. It's not as cold as I thought it was going to be, but I can't remember the actual air temp being this cold in my 36 years of life. Another round of teen temps tonite and supposed to be in the lower 70's this weekend. I thought about bringing the goats in last night to sleep in the guestroom but the wifey wouldn't have that. They were fine this morning.

    Hey, I know exactly where that picture was taken! It's been in the high 70's/low 80's out here in East County, but it does get pretty chilly at night.

    California may have its fruits and nuts, but you can not beat the weather.

    SF Bay Area is where I reside and last month and this month the day time highs have been in the 60's for the most part.

    Jealous?

    We could use some rain/snow however.

    Currently -6 Wind chill -32 here in Michigan. Whole state pretty much shut down all week so far.

    Did the coffee trick this morning at work... throw full cup up in the air and watch it vaporize instantly.. pretty neat.

    Numismatists are generally lonely people. Not all, but generally. They starve for human contact and sense of community. Coin discussions alone don't always fill that need. So even though they know the rules, desperation will drive some to openly defy the rule and reach out to others. Other lonely people will merely circumvent the rule, thus:

    Lonely member 1: "My cat, Bonky, is ill. I've had him for 15 years. I live alone and he's been my closest companion forever. He's the best cat that ever lived and I don't know what I'll do if he doesn't make it. Post a coin to cheer me up."

    Lonely member 2: "God bless you, I know how you feel. I lost my cat, Trinkets, to kidney failure last year. He was 20 and I'd had him since he was a kitten. Here's my 1970 Roosevelt dime in VF30. I hope Bonky feels better. Feel free to message me privately."

    Lonely member 3: "Can we keep this coin-related, please?"

I like the coin-related rule; if it weren't in place the forum would be clogged with "I'm having a cheeserburger for dinner" threads. I think the site owners know that it's impossible to restrain human nature, and accept the odd off-topic thread as a cost of doing business.

    +1 high today.

    I can't sleep when it gets so cold. I worry & fret about vehicles, equipment, water, etc...
    I don't now how you super cold weather people do it.

    West of Atlanta when we headed south for the FUN show it was 5 this morning. To beat all the power flicked off momentarily 4 times before we left. So now I'm sitting here in Orlando hoping I won't come home to a flooded house. Left the water dripping but am on a well. If the power goes out I'm screwed. I have an oversized heat/air system in my house as for what's called for and woke up to a house at 65 rather than the usual 70. image It was a balmy 50 when we arrved in Orlando this afternoon!

    With -7 we had our furnace give out earlier this afternoon. Fortunately we were able to get it repaired quickly, not so fortunate with the snow blower - it is shot. Be glad when this cold is over.

    Only -4 so actually quite nice, problem here is the wind chill of -40. was -60 last night with the wind chill. What really bites is when it gets down to -20 to -40 for 2 weeks.
