Barbernut Sets
Am I a Barber Nut,Coin Nut,Crazy Nut, What kind of am I?
I don't think I have seen anyone else do what I started between 2 and 3 years ago. I decided to put a complete PCGS set of Barber Halves together from F-12 through XF-45. I tried to quietly persue this venture over the last 2+1/2 years but it seems it didn't remain quiet long. It never fails in anything I have collected the masses seem to follow. Well...I am far enough along now that I don't think it matters. I lack 16 coins of completing the 9 sets of Barber Halves I decided to complete. This will show in my sets after I can get 2 cert #'s corrected(or go to the bank and make sure I didn't record the numbers wrong) and getting the other's to release them from their registry! RLD14...if you are reading this you are holding 9 of my coins hostage that I purchased over 2 years ago in a heritage auction!
The last set...the Everyman Set came about from registering my coins. My original goal was to put a set together from 12-45. Dang....I think the addiction is as bad as a Heroin addict! I wasn't going to persue the AU's. That changed when a wonderful 04-S in 53 dropped into my hands at the FUN show in 2012. That was a coin I said I would never buy! I recently was able to upgrade the 04-S to 55! I was offered a 58 at the same show for a ton of money...but I would take my 55 over the 58 I was offered! Well...I have paid more for a coin or 2 than that 04-S now. I sure wish I had pursued the Everyman set from the beginning!
So now you ask why? I think the Barber series...more specifically the halves... were the most heavily circulated series coined by the US. Times were tough through most of the time they were issued...then WW1...then the depression. During that time a Seated 1/2 would trump a Barber 1/2 everytime if one was deciding which to spend! The Barber series circulated regularly well into the 50's. The relief of the design was such that in my opinion the same amout of time in circulation on a Seated Halve in F would equate to a Barber Half in VG.
Oh I wish I could buy back the many nice Barber's I have sold over the past 20 years!

Im not in that kindda closet! Please contact him if you can! Thinking I am gonna call PCGS and see if I can avoid the pictures via email senario. Many have Heritage records...so! We will see if it comes to that!
I love Barbers also.
I have the same passion for barber quarters but don't have the means to pursue that many sets at once. Thanks for putting you sets up on the registry.

Thanks that's the 97-S as the 98-O is my favorite barber error I own and not for sale.
I have not heard from RLD14 in a few years. I sold him a number of the halves that was in his set.
Not sure what he got into, as far as 'other hobbies', (though I heard rumors best reserved for PM's and bourse gossip), but I do
know I had trouble getting paid for the last group of coins that I shipped him. Fortunately some forum folks helped me
and eventually it all worked out.

Nothing bad as he got back into buying and restoring antique automobiles, chasing a bit more tail then he should be, and in his limited spare time building some killer air compresses snowball cannons. I tried to get him to come to ANA last year but he was to busy at work to make the show.
I see many folks starting Barber sets and demand is high.

I figured I might as well put it in their while I own it! I sure hope someone takes it off my hands before I start climbing a mountain that will cause my wife to divorce me! That 63+ is probably the prettiest Half I own and is begging for some companions!

Doug! I can't believe I missed your post! Yeah! I am a Barber Half NUT! I am always looking to improve the "Look" of the coins in my sets! I like the quarters but the 3 stoppers turn me away as I want a chance at finishing what I start. The Dimes don't grab me because I am a fan of the Eagle Reverse on the Quarters and Halves.
