I guess if it was something of little value I would not waste the time and block. However, if it is
something of consequence then let him bid. Just do not ship until funds are absolutely yours.

The bidder seems reasonable. If you're comfortable taking the money order, then let him bid. It might mean more money for you in the end.

Its an expensive item. I just don't know how safe a Canadian money order is or how long it will take to clear. I told him I only take Postal Money orders and he replied "It wont be". Not sure how to take that. lol

I don't know if you're going to have a choice.
Even if you block the bidder (I wouldn't, based on what you have shown us), his "second bidder friend" is going to throw a last second bid and you have no idea who that is to block.

Are you saying a Canadian Postal Service Money Order will do? Certainly he cannot be expected to get a US Postal Money Order.

But either way, international buyers should always use PayPal. Otherwise, I would say you are actually better off with a personal check, as you will know if that is good or not a lot faster than a MO.

No reason to block, just say you do not accept Money Orders that are not USPS.

Yes, because our post offices will cash them.

He can get a Canada Post money order in US$. I would tell him that's your preferred method of payment.

I like communication, so an opportunity to respond to an excited collector hoping to score on a venue like eBay (2nd to amazon and a whole bunch of other places ) is nobody I'd block, eh ? Seems like a nice fellow. Maybe not as articulate as some might want, but a willingness to deal and maybe even WIN at the highest price is an opportunity to cross the bridge or border, as it were; as well as spread the wealth. It's a global trading platform, for that matter. image

I just worry because there are so many scammers out there and especially with fake money orders. Its hard to trust anymore...especially online

I hate to be the paranoid one, but this bidder is likely 200% legit. Unfortunately, there's that chance it's not and it's going to take a while for that MO to clear. The bidder is already not listening to directions, and I would ask them to move along, blocking if necessary. How long does it take to clear? How willing is the person to wait?

Be nice and tell the bidder they are nice, hate to lose their business, but can't take their MO. OTOH, perhaps they do not know their PO can issue in US$. Perhaps try that first?

    Nothing

It comes down to directions and clearing times. Will this customer be patient?

If you take it, copy both side and call the telephone number on it. Ask about validity and clearing times-- although they may not really truly know the latter. Perhaps they will know once it has cleared

all my listings explicitly state that I don't ship outside of the USA and people still ask for a shipping quote to their homeland. I am beginning to believe that people are either illiterate or just cant be bothered to actually read the listing

With Ebay/Paypal, the funds are never "absolutely yours".

I wouldn't be concerned if the bidder hadn't casually ignored directions. Is this person going to patiently wait for an unknown hold time? Then there is US-Canada mail slow delivery times to wait.

Had the bidder said "I can't get a PO MO, but I will wait however long it takes to clear this MO" then I'd say go for it.
