Did anyone here win this Newman coin?

It was the only one that I really liked of the capped bust half dime group, did anyone here win it? I know there's a good chance someone here did. I was an underbidder.

It surely sold for a hefty premium...not sure I like the hit in front of the mouth or the hits that seem to be on the nose though. Not my series so maybe most AU55s would have a ton more hits?

Keep in mind this is a half-dime. That "hit" is probably no bigger than a peach-fuzz!!! image

I think it's a very nice example from the pics, but I would be curious to see what people thought in-hand. It was definitely sold at a premium, I just couldn't justify what it sold for. I think I bailed out in the $500 range. I do think it was one of the nicest in the group of XF-Low MS coins. It's really nicely original and pleasantly preserved from what my computer monitor tells me.

    Wow!
Barndog, yours should either be a Gold sticker, or an AU58 based on the photos of both.
I'll bet you got yours for a lot less too! image

got mine from Alpine Numismatics...and he never would have priced an AU55 anywhere near the PRL for the Newman coin. Lucky me image

The disturbance in the field left of the mouth could be flow lines. The later die states have them.

I thought the same thing about the flow lines, but I really couldn't tell for sure.
