Question about whether to block a bidder.

MrDMrD Posts: 2,589 ✭✭✭
I was perusing my Ebay auctions and noticed a bidder had canceled a bid in one of my auctions. It didn't seem like a big deal because it happens from time to time. Upon further review I noticed out of the total 421 feedbacks the bidder had, he had 135 bid cancelations in 12 months. Would you block him?

That's a 32% cancellation rate. It seems abnormal for standard bidding approaches.

I think I'd block him as (s)he seems unable to make up their mind. What's going to
happen if they end up with the high bid before he can cancel it? You're going to be
forced to re-list or offer to second high bidder...too much hassle for my taste. JMO

If I still sold on Ebay I would block him!

Keep in mind the 421 feedbacks are lifetime. Not just one year.

Some bidder's have a habit of putting in a really high bid just to see what the highest bidder's maximum bid is. This bidder should be blocked IMO.

135 bid cancellations in 12 months indicates to me that bid cancellation is being used as part of a bidding strategy, not as an occasional fall back. Whether or not that should be used to block or not is a different question.

If the evidence is simply of bid cancellation and not of claims to having received no merchandise, a lack of payment on won auctions or the practice of giving poor feedback for apparently no reason then, no, I would not block the bidder.

To each his own on blocking. For me, that is definitely enough reason to block.
    All the best,

    I agree.

The odds of completing a successful transaction with this person don't seem to be very good.

If a prospective buyer gives me reason to suspect that an attempted transaction with him may end up in an unsatisfactory manner, I will block him. It's (the blocked bidder list) about the only protection eBay affords sellers anymore when it comes to problem buyers.

There's enough other buyers on ebay. I would definitely block.
