    Why anyone would look to profit on this, even for pennies on the dollar, is wrong in my book. Also can we really believe someone would want to pay $400 for a "novelty" item? This auction should be shut down.

    Also, as noted above, the frosting on this is a dead give away. Still though... (shakes head in disgust)

    He is one or both of these:

    1) Scammer selling a fake Mantle
    2) Total moron

    I lean towards both.

    If it is legit -- and would grade PSA 4-5 -- having it graded would make it
    worth quite a lot and obviously would need to be done.

    I see sports card scammers --they're everywhere.

    And their favorite hangout is eBAY.
    The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the PSA 10 collector he didn't exist.

    i'd betcha some folks won't bother to read that description with the dollar signs dancing in their eyeballs. lest we forget that regardless of eBay, that card will find its way into the private sector somehow and a knowledge impaired investor will own it.

    The guy admits to creating a nearly "perfect" fake card and claims he has been offered $68,000.00 for it and you say this is fine? Wow he sure is honest!

    He isn't that honest. He should at least have "FAKE" in the title.

    And, he has this in the item specifics:
    Original/Reprint: Original
    Professional Grader: Professional Sports (PSA)

    It's not original, and it's not graded by PSA.

    Not sure if this is serious. Selling a counterfeit item is illegal no matter how honest you are about the fact that it is counterfeit.

    Actually it is not fine unless he has a license from Topps to sell their items as homemade reprints.

    BTW, you did exactly what he was counting on. You read the title, looked at the pic but didn't read the description. You obviously didn't read the description until after it was pointed out here.

    I'd love nothing more than for this guy's face to severely injure my hand. This type of sh*t is becoming part and parcel, and I for one am sick of it. If you're having a difficult time deciphering what's going to transpire should this auction be allowed to play out, then it's probably time for some neuroimaging. As far as I'm concerned, this is BBG on roids. It's one thing to sell the mask and gun, but you're in a completely different realm when you create a quasi-novel in an attempt to justify and absolve.

    I have zero faith in eBay to ever do the right thing, but I'm on board with Maurice's suggestion. At the very least, I hope we can nudge karma his direction.

    I saw it but didn't save it. He said it was digital, yes? I wonder what kind of print that would not be revealed with a good loupe. It looked fake in the auction to me.

    The seller was attempting to sell a 1952 Topps Mantle PSA 8. It was a counterfeit card in a tampered PSA holder. The seller admitted this and referred to it as a novelty item.

    And he claimed that a dealer begged him to sell the card for 68k.

    Who is the dealer? His mother?

    Some collectors cant see a scam even if its right under their nose. Some collectors lack vision. If a deal see-ms too good to be true it probably is.

    In all seriousness HK being blind as her legacy is an attempt to marginalize her real historical significance.

    This was pointed out on another forum earlier today and some folks reported it to eBay, while a few of us other emailed PSA. The label and serial number on the tab in the slab was linked to a '52 Mantle PSA 8 that sold for $82K. To me the problem wasn't with the "novelty" card inside, it was the PSA holder. The bidding got up to over $500 before it was deleted, I'm just wondering how many ne'er-do-well's were trying to get their paws on the slab and tab to scam someone else?
