<< <i>Ebay is the largest coin venue.

It is an integral part of US Numismatics wether you like it or not.

    No separate forum needed. >>

Agreed. eBay is like a 24/7/365 coin show. Anytime you want you can go shopping for coins. If you want to get rid of the eBay posts, then get rid of all auction posts and all coin show posts too. >>

Yes get rid of them all as per the purpose of the forum.

  • << <i>Thank you for all your contributions here, over you long tenure, and your desire to change things to better suit you and your active involvement in the forum community. >>

Thanks for the sarcasm and immaturity.

It's ironic people complain about ebay policy but look the other way here when it suits them...

<< <i>Title says it all. On any given day in the U.S. Coin Forum there is at least 1 (currently 3... bumped them all for your pleasure) thread related to ebay nonsense on the first page. Nonsense being defined as not directly related to U.S. Coins like the forum rules specifies, i.e., Rule 6) This forum is about US Coins. If your post is not directly related to US Coins then this is the wrong forum. Do not post it or your posting privileges may be removed.

It's apparent that there's lack of enforcement in this area. A majority of the time those threads are beneficial, but do fall outside of the stated purpose of this forum. So, can an ebay forum be added as a happy compromise? Those from other forums would benefit as well... >>

    Good Luck in your quest.

If folks had to post to an eBay Forum, us US coiners would not get the latest and greatest on who published a bad or blurry photo. on who was offering a suspected counterfeit coin, on who was suspected of offering a counterfeit slab, on who was suspected of shill bidding, of who had a suspiscious listing with 0 feedback of new eBay policies and of who no longer sells on ebay cause its just too expensive!

    I think we'd be lost................... >>

Yeah... all those posts about 'suspicious' posts don't really belong here either. Again, not my rules. Useful posts, yes. But don't belong here... hence the desire for a dedicated forum here.

The eBay posts are about US Coins and buyers and sellers
of US Coins, the stated purpose of this forum.

Forum members do a great public service by identifying fake holders,
    stolen ID's, counterfeit coins, etc.

As of a couple minutes ago, there were 68,240 PCGS coins listed on
    eBay.

    Something I am missing here?

The stated purpose of this forum is to talk directly about types of U.S. Coins.
Rule 6) This forum is about US Coins. If your post is not directly related to US Coins then this is the wrong forum. Do not post it or your posting privileges may be removed.
    - and -
Talk about all types of U.S. coins with other collectors, dealers, and experts.

Where does it say buyers and sellers of US coins? Where does it say ebay policy? Where does it say fuzzy pictures? Where does it say possible counterfeit coins (these threads could actually be considered libelous, but that's another guideline that's not moderated)? Etc....

It's pretty simple if you just look at it objectively. Yes, I can skip the OFF TOPIC threads, and I do.... but I shouldn't have to nor should anyone else. It dilutes the purpose of the forum. That's why there's so many forums here at PCGS.... maybe too many actually.

I understand the value of those threads. I really do. I also understand the nature of this community. It's an invaluable resource for knowledge or just having conversation. I don't want that diminished. It's great.

But this forum is less about types of US coins and more about anything related to US coins. That's fine. No problem. Either moderate it better or redefine the purpose to something like "Talk about all types of U.S. coins and other matters related to U.S. numismatics with other collectors, dealers, and experts." Heck, include world coins too. Those threads pop up here as well even though there's a separate forum. May as well merge the registry forum too. The latter option is better. Just talking about coin types would be stagnate, and this forum has evolved into something better than its original purpose, especially since the guidelines were last updated 2/12/11.

But whatever. Seems like no one cares. Guess if I ever buy a gold coin and receive a brass coin, I should just accept it since it's still a coin.

I am just a guest here, PCGS owns the forum. When they think
something is inappropriate, they take action.

My personal feeling is that eBay is good for PCGS's business as evidenced by
the 68,240 PCGS slabbed coins listed on eBay.

If I go to a party at someone's house, I can eat some of everything, just
certain dishes, or nothing at all. If I am a vegetarian I won't eat the meat, but
I won't ask the host to remove it from their table.

When you contacted PCGS with your concerns, what did they tell you?

I don't mind eBay posts on the coin forum.

Many of the eBay threads I read here are about US coins in PCGS holders (real or fake) so I think it's fine to have them here.
