Have you ever messed up a Buy It Now opening bid? Be glad this guy didn't find your auction

We've all seen it happen, or had it happen to us: you accidentally list a coin on eBay for a $.99 "Buy It Now" instead of an opening bid. Most of the time those stories have been posted here, it's by a Samaritan buying a coin to protect the seller, or a seller reporting a buyer who let him off the hook for his mistake.

Well be glad this guy didn't win your auction, because his reaction on finding an obviously mistaken StubHub offer for World Series tickets was to snap them up, then gloat about it on Deadspin. Man buys two box seats to World Series Game 1 for $6

I'd flip that SO FAST that you'd get whiplash from watching me do it.

  • But then he has to sit through entire baseball game, I think that is punishment enough.

At least on eBay you don't have to ship, I guess the seller down loaded his ticket info prior to the sale. Sucks being stupid.

Seller would not be obligated to go through with that deal, I don't think. Obvious error and no meeting
of the minds, would make it voidable, right?

Send him the tickets. If they get lost in the mail, refund his money. imageimage

The easy way out for the seller is to just tie this matter up in legal disputes until the World Series is over. In the mean time, sell the tickets to someone else quietly.

tickets were immediately downloaded and printed by buyer. Possession remains nine tenths of the law.

I don't understand why sellers begin auctions at a price that is lower than they are willing to accept. Had this seller followed this rule he would not have burned himself with the buy it now error.

I figure a guy like this has been hunched over his keyboard with his finger poised to click "Buy It Now" for 11 years, and just now has hit pay dirt.

I expect the seller simply made an error and failed to catch it.

And it is no surprise to see that the story was quickly debunked as a hoax by The Stub Hub You know, it was on the internet so it must be true. imageimage

The problem with "downloadable tickets" is that they can downloaded by multiple people....

    Hard tix only for me!

Wow... sorry about that, I'm ashamed now that I let that one through. I posted it because it was picked up by the local CBS affiliate on their web site, and I foolishly assumed it was already vetted for legitimacy.

Well now wait.... it says "The transaction has been canceled and the buyer has been refunded." So that means the story was true, but StubHub backed the seller and cancelled the sale. Also note that the source for that information is Darren Rovell, whom I consider less reliable than my local CBS affiliate.

I spent a few hours watching my nephews play baseball last year (5 and 6 at the time) but would not spend a few dollars on ANY "big" sports event. world series, Stanley cup, superbowl and whatever the big game is in basketball, id rather sit in a DMV for a few hours
regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything
