Question about a 1907 O Barber Quarter - Surface damage or "mumps"?

JKTJKT Posts: 492 ✭✭✭
I have a copy of copy of David Lawrence's Complete Guide to Barber Quarters that I love to thumb through and I have noted his mentioning of the 1907 O being the weakest struck coin in the series. He also mentions the "mumps" and describes this as "small depressions in the cheek, or simply distorted". I have searched for pictures in the past and the only coins that I have come across that were described as "mumps" have more evenly lined and cleaner depressions than the coin I am showing here. My question is: is this recent LCS newp an example of a 1907 O with "the mumps" (as a result of being struck over debris, perhaps)? Or is this simple surface damage? Normally I would say surface damage but given what I have read (but not seen) I was hoping to get some more educated opinions.

Any opinions are appreciated! And my apologies if this photo Thanks!

If it's post mint damage, I have never seen its equal.
Almost as if the Obverse die had shattered... There is
some indication on the neck of man made markings.

It's a strange one for sure. It is not the mumps variety.
