Coin Shows in NJ

Years ago, New Jersey had many coin shows. I notice they do not have many now. What happened to dampen the coin shows? Did the taxes run the shows out of the state. I'm just curious to know.

The tax squad stormed the GSNA annual show in Cherry Hill and scared the major out-of-staters away for good. The ironic thing is that the locals and small-timers have responded by making the monthly Parsippany show the best monthly show in the country.

Actually, New Jersey still has many coin shows - it's just that almost all of them are local shows.

The two exceptions are, as Andy mentioned, the 80+ dealer, first-Sunday-of-the-month Parsippany show - which actually attracts a number of substantial dealers and a wide variety of material.

The other is the annual (usually in May) Garden State Numismatic Association show. The GSNA show has about 60 dealers and always seems quiet, but as Andy can also confirm, this quiet is more apparent than real - dealers show up year after year and there's a waiting list for tables. Tom Hyland, the bourse chairman, does a really good job getting dealers to come (many from out-of-state) who don't usually come to New Jersey.
