Priority 2-day + Registered, but no tracking info after day 1 !!

Yikes, should I be worried? I sent my coins to our host 2 day Priority mail (only SFO to LA) and it's now been 4 days, and there is no additional tracking information after the first day. It says expected Delivery 9/10, and it's now 9/12

When do I start my sleepless nights?

The thread title mentions Registered Mail, but the post does not. This makes a difference in delivery time.

For security reasons, registered mail does not provide tracking except for leaving the initial sort facility and when it is delivered. No need to worry. Even though you sent it priority, if it was registered, it will likely take several days longer unless you happen to live very close to Newport Beach.

It's registered and you are worried after only 4 days?
    Settle down.

You know how registered mail is handled, right?
Locked up. Signed for each step of the way. Internally, they can track it to a "T" I believe, but it isn't like that online, and I am ok with that.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

This. Registered mail usually takes a minimum of one week for me. Also, the lack of tracking online is very common in my experience.

Worrying about registered mail delivery is akin to worrying that the sun won't come up, though the timing for the latter is quite a bit less predictable.

because of weight (over 13 oz.) the registered packaged gets charged at the priority rate. Because the tracking computer sees "priority" it defaults to expected delivery based on "priority." Because it is registered priority it takes the normal, slow registered route to its destination. Registered tracking rarely shows all the stops in between. Don't worry. 5-10 days is normal.

Not necessarily true. I sent a registered package to a board member and it shows from Ames, IA to KC, MO to Barry, IL. Smoetimes the tracking is detailed, but more often it is not. No real rhyme or reason to it.

The level of service (Priority 2-day, First Class, Parcel Post, etc.) is completely and utterly irrelevant with Registered mail. The extra security and logging is a manual task and takes time. Processing Registered mail is usually low on the priority scale and often gets pushed to the back of the pile in the responsible postal worker's work day. Relax, it will get there...

I sent two shipments Registered + 2 day priority the Monday before Labor Day (8/26)

    A. They didn't track at all
    B. One arrived Tues 9/3. the other arrived Wed. 9/4 (6 and 7 business days respectively)

I was not happy at paying for the 2 day priority but at least they did finally arrive at their (separate destinations)

If you want trackable use Express mail. I find the speed is worth the cost.

It's worth it only if speed is of the essence or the other party is willing to pay for it. At least to me.

Priority is only a default service when a first class package weighs more than 13 ounces. The delivery time for priority is only an estimate and not any kind of guarantee.

Never pay extra for registered priority, it still travels at registered speed. If item is 13 oz. or more it has to go at the priority rate, even if registered - you have no choice. You can choose priority registered for less than 13 ozs. but you are wasting your money on the difference between registered priority rate and registered first class rate. I always specify first class registered at the counter (unless it is in a priority box) and let the clerk determine if it has to go at the priority rate. Flat rate priority boxes for heavy shipments (bullion) can save you money (on weight) if sending registered. I also believe registered is the only USPS class of mailing that will allow a claim on insured bullion.

Governments can print currency. Only the people can print faith in it — and they’re running low on ink.

One would think that as many times as this has been brought up, discussed, beaten to death, etc. and so on and so forth that everyone would be in tune. Apparently not.

That's what I really, really, REALLY wanted to say, but, for some reason, I held back...

thanks for all your comments. I'll calm down a bit now . . .

and I did a bit of "research" here on the forum, reading about lost shipments, how they were sent, etc, and that made me send Registered. The priority was a Flat Rate box, and for the weight, was required.

    cheers!

    Updates?

FWIW here is tracking info for a registered mail shipment that should get delivered today. There appears to be no rhyme or reason for how much detail is included in the tracking.

finally delivered yesterday (1 week after shipping). I've learned a valuable lesson, which is that registered takes longer, even if you send Priority.

    Thanks for all your inputs!
