Have you ever returned a coin........

That was approved from the sticker mill? I've seen a few comments lately with what I perceived the tone as ,,,,, what nerve they had. Yes, I've returned one. And not only that but returned it to the great Mark Feld! OK be honest, have you also thought about returning a sticker mill approved coin but thought you better not as you might be seen as a problem buyer? image

Edit to add, I also sent one back to JA that I felt he completely blew the call on the coin. He agreed and made me whole.

Yes, I have returned approved coins and did not concern myself over what may be thought. The sticker indicates that the coin is solid for the grade; it does not guarantee that I will like it.

I returned a Chain Cent that was stickered. Grade was correct, I just didn't like the coin.
I've passed on many stickered coins as well.

I purchased a gold beaned coin and rather than returning it to the seller, I quickly resold it to break even. Ditto RYK.

  • Having a CAC sticker doesn't necessarily mean it's a pleasing coin.

Sticker mill? Really? It is OK to return them for sure, as wisely stated, it is an indication of grade not that everyone will like it. Take Gold coins. CAC loved copper spots, and I understand why. The scream original. But many collectors do not like them. And all of that is fine. But, the connotation of "mill" would mean that you do not think they are to be taken seriously. CAC added very significant value to the coin market and created a significant course correction of the hobby on the whole. Using terms like "Sticker Mill" seems to trivialize all of that.

Not sure if that is what you meant to do....

So far, I have not returned any stickered coins.

However, I had a buyer return a $200 stickered coin he had won below CDN Bid. He was slow in paying and I was about to file a non payment claim against him. I was glad to get the coin back as I felt I gave it away in the auction (it is now relisted at my retail).

In researching this guy's buying history on ebay and the fact the return had my packaging enclosed where he had marked "returns" I believe this is someone buying a number of ebay items (both slabbed and raw), sorting thru them for upgrades / crossovers, and returning what he does not want. I have since blocked him. I don't care for these people either online or at shows (they will try to chisel down their purchasing price to pay for their submission). This has nothing to do with the coin having a sticker which in itself is only another opinion. There was never any communication from this guy it was being returned (very odd) and it just showed up in my PO box one day. I promptly refunded his money thru paypal.

I have no problem with the term "sticker mill" (so please by all means use it) but considering they are not taking new submitters the last time I checked - are they shut down or on strike lol. I definitely do not believe gold coins with copper spots should be stickered. These coins are low end in my opinion and can be a real problem in selling. I have handled all types of Double Eagles, and US Early 20th Century Gold coins on the bourse and online. A gold coin with copper spots is not something you want to be stuck with (stickered or not).

I've passed on a bazillion coins with beans. I support the company, but just because they like the coin doesn't mean it will meet my standards, too.

Ive been surprised a few times by stickered coins. Ive never returned any - but I have passed on initial purchase of some.

Like anything - once there is saturation of the stickers, it seems like the bar has been lowered a bit. I wouldn't think there would not be more that 10% of any given coin/pop that would earn a sticker, MAX.

I've seen a lot of stickers.....and some coins don't deserve them.
