Proof 1968 S Type F Quarter quickly sold on ebay.

There are at least 4 types of 1968 S proof quarter reverses. THe bulk of them are type G which was a new proof only design in 1968. In late 1968 they switched to a slightly modified type B now called type H. In early 1968 a very few type F were struck. The fourth one is a bit of a puzzlement. It is either a type D or type E or both could have been used. Type D and E are nearly identical except type E has an incuse outline on the inside edge of the eagles outer wing segment to the viewer's left. I believe this line would be easily polished off in preparation of a proof die. I have never seen a proof with this line. Thus all my non F, G and H specimens look like a type D. Yet James Wiles and CPG report type E and no type D. In general I don't think you could tell those two apart in polished proof.

I have found less than 1% to be non type G nor type H. Ebay recently had one for sale, a type F. I find the description to be well done. It sold quickly.

1968S is unique in having proof varities and some are quite scarce. It seems like a worthy area to collect. Anybody here interested?

Here is the item in question:

    Here's a linkie-poo for you.

Edited...the description looks clean, but I don't see where he gets a price of $99, after "Far Less than HALF its True Value (Open-Ended Return Policy) Quanity Unknown "NOW ON SALE, 20% OFF"...where does seller get his original price to work from? Not that I have anything against the coin or seller, or buyer (ahem ahem), just would like to know where he's getting an established price.

It COULD be a great buy in/for the long-term.
    I'll come up with something.

    Thanks for the link.

I agree that the priceing is an unkown area for this item. However, I almost bought it myself.

    Well there you go.

Herb is an expert and if he's willing to fork over $99. then its a good price.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

image And That is the reason I bought this coin. I am trying to learn as much as I can about all the quarters and Herb was nice enough to offer me this coin, and I did not hesitate. I figure even for 99 bucks it was well worth it to own this example. Thanks for offering me the coin and should get it this week. And yes I look at this one as a long term investment and hopefully will find the others and learn even more..........Enjoy image

And my (ahem ahem) steps up!

Lee, you are correct, your point is short and sweet and right on. Tom, as we discussed, hey, for under $100, the potential is all there. Congrats again, on a great pickup!

And kudo's to Herb for allowing it to be scooped up by someone who'll really appreciate it, as Tom is just SOOOOO into Washie varieties BIGTIME!!
    I'll come up with something.

I think Tom is going to corner the market on Washington varieties. Great pickup.

I picked up these RDV 005 and RDV 006 a few months ago. I don't think the seller knew what they had. I believe I purchased them both for under 30.00.

Both were graded by ANACS PF67
