Could you imagine being michael jordan? Can you imagine how much work he put into basketball? Sure basketball might be fun, but how many of you actually could play 48 mins a game 82 games a year and deliver like superstar athletes? How many of you could draw a full house in any town like the bulls or lakers? These superstar players also have to sacrifice alot of what was once a personal life out the window. I think superstar ball players deserve every penny they earn minus the few like shawn kemp or vin baker. Basketball players don't sub players for defense like football, ball players play both ends of the court.
Think about your coach when you were a kid, and then your high school coach. Then your teachers. Heck, even the bus driver. One screw up from him and you are dead. If he screws up, he no longer has a job.
Pro athletes do drugs, some of them, an none really personally inspire you at all.
But people would rather have fun than to be serious. So the "fun" makes the money.
Nowitzki & mavs stuff

are they overpaid? absolutely not... sure you have players like A-Rod making $252 mill over 10 years, and Dirk with his fat 100 million dollar contract, but the fact of the matter is that these players make a lot of money for their teams. If the players don't get paid a lot, who should get the money? Should it fatten the bank accounts of the owners who sit back and watch the games from a luxury box, or should it go to the players? People don't pay to see Mark Cuban, they pay to see Dirk Nowitzki. Think ticket prices would be less if A-Rod was only making $8 million per year? Not a chance...

I'd have to say they are all grossly overpaid. That goes for the greedy owners too. Then again the public continues to go to the games and buy the merchandise even with the prices at the current level. Knowing that maybe the general public is to blame for how much athletes get paid.
