Could you imagine being michael jordan? Can you imagine how much work he put into basketball? Sure basketball might be fun, but how many of you actually could play 48 mins a game 82 games a year and deliver like superstar athletes? How many of you could draw a full house in any town like the bulls or lakers? These superstar players also have to sacrifice alot of what was once a personal life out the window. I think superstar ball players deserve every penny they earn minus the few like shawn kemp or vin baker. Basketball players don't sub players for defense like football, ball players play both ends of the court.
almost any sport...not to be playa hating but tiger woulds just signed a 100 million dollar contract with nike ...dirk gets paid about 100 million...... arod over 200 million...what about the doctors and firefighters would risk their lives everyday.....the teachers who teach our kids?to be honest some of the teachers could get a pay cut....j/k.. but serious though i think these people deserve some of that cash
Battier, I am with you. Many people are more important than pro athletes.
Think about your coach when you were a kid, and then your high school coach. Then your teachers. Heck, even the bus driver. One screw up from him and you are dead. If he screws up, he no longer has a job.
Pro athletes do drugs, some of them, an none really personally inspire you at all.
But people would rather have fun than to be serious. So the "fun" makes the money.
and that sucks also the dam government charging us all these dam taxes......we get paid they tax our check....everything we buy we have to pay dam taxes on... over here we have this dam west nile thing...they gonna tax us for spraying our own dam city...then they gonna tax us more for buying a brand new car...then they gonna tax us even more...income tax refund?yeah right they gonna tax us for that ...and the dam nba get millions of millions and a 50,000 signing bonus so they can pay for taxes
me and you could go be a fire fighter, but me and you could not just go be a sports athlete. Sure it might not seem fair, but people watch sports to take there mind off things. It brings excitement to fans and no matter how unfair it may seem.........sports athletes have been giving people joy since who knows......fire fighters have only been appreciated since 9/11 which is sad, but very true. Tiger woods is a megastar you can't knock nike for paying him 100 million. I'm sure tiger makes them alot more money than that aswell. As far as dirk........who cares about dirk. I'll take a teacher on the mavs for 1 million than dirk for 100 mill.
i wish i had tigers phone number i would tax him...but it shows you what the world is coming to though......and that sucks you save a life you get a thank you.....you make a game winning basket?you get the following
cars,clothes,women/men,popularity, houses,get to meet the president..you can commit crimes and get off quick,you get a 500.000 signing bonus.....and omg!!!!!1
my friend tim got 100,000 for setting the world record as being the fastest man.....i think i will tax him
you act like they make 1 shot and thats it. Do you much work they put into it? Do you know how much there in the gym working there tail off while your looking for there cards on the internet? Can you be tiger woods? Seriously find something else to knock, because guess what? You can't do NOTHING about it. People will forever watch sports.......Sports bring joy- saving lives and drama brings sorrow. Pick your own mental state.
but thats not the dam point..its not about knocking someone...its just about the truth....saving lives brings happiness instead of death...when you risk your life to save someone elses..i consider that better than a dam touchdown.....but dont get me wrong i like sports. play them everyday.....and hope to be a professional athlete one day (track)...but still the truth stands...its just my opinion thats all
i'm just saying athletes deserve every penny they get. They work just as hard or harder than the next man and they get paid. Not everybody wins the lottery ok? Do you understand that? I agree that fire fighters deserve millions of dollars, but you didn't even care about firefighters until after sept 11th like most americans. It takes tragedy to make you realize what is important.Yeah who cares about a touchdown right? Do you know how many people are in the stands screaming? Do you know how much stress it relieves on people to enjoy something dealing with something that has nothing to do with death? If you want to hear about saving lives and people dying everyday then be my guest. I'll take hearing about sports over the news ANYDAY.
actually i always gave props to figherfighters since i was 5 man.....sept 11, only made me give thanks for people who would risk their lives for others...no them policemen...those boys can get on my nerves....a ticket for this a ticket for that.......can turn your music up...in some parts of cali you cant even have a cool air intake on your car....whatever that is....i knew at 1 time
we'll thats good that you have been giving props to firemen since the age of 5, but i'm just mainly talking about the majority of the american people. Yeah police in cali are not human. There out to get you not out to protect you. They do good when they need too though, but most of the time police in cali are jerk offs. I mean getting away with a ticket from a police man in cali is a blessing....atleast they didn't beat you down or dump you off in compton wearing a blue shirt in a blood infested neighborhood .
Ahtletes do deserve the money they get..for the effort they have to put into to their jobs...I don't know of any other job that you would have to workout 4-5 hours daily just to be in shape to compete for your job...But i do not agree on the basketball point.....If there was a sport where the athletes are overpaid it would be basketball...Like Iverson said" Practice!, Practice man, we talking about practice here." basketball is a sport where the athletes are getting to young to be considered pro's...straight outta high school is not the way to go, then they wanna throw $50 millon to a 18 year old hs graduate.....and expect him to be a role model....yeah right these kids are mostly thugs that just needed "a way out" and we just gave it to them, because they can jump.....real smart....
What would make them a thug? hmmm let's see Iverson putting out a rap CD, to the Kids that look up to him and make him a role model...That's a real smart one there Iverson.....look at Garnett he skipped right pass college, to the pro's to make millons, and what does he do he start's his own street gang...I'm mean stuff like that...I mean why wouldn't you just make Kobe,Kemp,Garnett,Miles,Stoudamire and the many more coming straight from there High school, stay in college for a minium amount of time. College isn't just for the schooling in education also the schooling in life.....I think 18,19,&20 is just way to young to throw millions in the lap of these players and expect them not to act like they just got out of High school, cause most of them did! I believe you are a product of your enviorment...so if you take these players straight from the high school that provided them with the gang banging atmosphere, then what do you expect them to do??? That's all...
LOL just because iverson made a rap cd does not make him a thug....and kevin garnett does not have his own gang it is called a crew ...there is a difference...and you know what if they offere you 40 million to come straight outta high school into the pros, you saying you would be like ...nope...yeah right ...
I think they do. And the worst part is they still want more. People have to work hard for pretty much any job. When you're an athlete sure you have to train and everything but they don't even play the whole year. They get months off. Plus they are getting millions for advertising and appearences. So yes they are being over paid, in my opinion. Chris.
are they overpaid? absolutely not... sure you have players like A-Rod making $252 mill over 10 years, and Dirk with his fat 100 million dollar contract, but the fact of the matter is that these players make a lot of money for their teams. If the players don't get paid a lot, who should get the money? Should it fatten the bank accounts of the owners who sit back and watch the games from a luxury box, or should it go to the players? People don't pay to see Mark Cuban, they pay to see Dirk Nowitzki. Think ticket prices would be less if A-Rod was only making $8 million per year? Not a chance...
yeah but still man... 252 million? thats more than the dam president gets....lol i can see bill gates and his billion dollar genious mind...but arod??? awwww mannn
The President doesn't make 80-100 TV apperances a year for 3-4 hours at a time, like Arod.... And Teachers get 3 months during the year too...so does that mean they don't do anything too?? I mean it's not just Iverson's CD, but what about the latest charges?? They got dropped, but that's not the point he was running around with a gun threatening people after he kicked his girlfriend out....anyway some of these ahtletes do get paid alot but what about when FB players have to play on Thanksgiving and Christmas while your at home enjoying your friends, family, and ,and fun watching them..??? And many of these ahtletes do give back huge amounts to their communities, charties, and the fans(kids)...I mean think about how much revenue is generated by these games and players...The entertainment industry is by far the leading money maker is the US and sports are a big chunk of it...
sure, if it were a perfect world that might happen battier, and I agree that it would be nice if a good portion of the revenue generated by major league sports went to a charitable cause... but the reality is that sports are now business...
I'd have to say they are all grossly overpaid. That goes for the greedy owners too. Then again the public continues to go to the games and buy the merchandise even with the prices at the current level. Knowing that maybe the general public is to blame for how much athletes get paid.
