... sometimes pays off!
An addition to my small non-primary Charles III set - 1773 Mexico 8 Reales. This one is a non-inverted assayer / mintmark variety of 1773 that will fit nicely with the other 1772 and 1773 I already have in the set. Here's a post from 2010 when I acquired the inverted 1773 that still has some images to show the different varieties.

<< <i>Very nice. The auction pics make it look XF but I think you're right, it should go AU. Any 72/73 is pretty cool just based on the varieties. >>
Those are my favorite dates from the Charles III portrait series, as well. I will add the 1772 inverted MF to the collection eventually to have all 4 varieties. Hard to justify spending strong money on the key date for a non-primary set, but if something comes-up in the high VF- low XF range with original skin, I just might bite the bullet.
By the way, as I was filling out info on the flip for this one, noticed that PCGS has yet to certify the 1773 "Non-Inverted" variety. And since PCGS removed the misattributed 1772 MF variety, there aren't any of those certified by PCGS, as well.

Phil took a great image for Coin Facts, though.

In fact, I like it so much I just "stole" it.
(It seemed to fit the "happy" coin topic of that Liteside thread.)
Just crop out the toothpaste box, and you're good to go!

<< <i>I was worried about the obverse fields being cleaned in the straight down shot you had posted. None the less a very nice coin. >>
I saw it too, but thought it wouldn't hold it back. Should have no problem ATS, though.
LordM - You're always welcome to my images Carlos III was a pretty happy guy on coins!

<< <i>BTW, though Phil's CoinFacts image is great, I like your "tilt" shot above even better. … >>
Agreed, the obv looks better in that photo than any other.

I agree, but it is also not the most "honest" shot, Phil's photo does show some of the hairlines.
I must also add that it is a nice coin regardless of it's grade.
