GSNA Show Report! (And My Seated Quarter NEWP!) Better Pictures Added

I almost feel ashamed trying to do a show report as they will always fall short of Charmy's! I should try bringing a camera with me sometime. Anyways...
My buddy and I arrived around 1:00. The parking lot seemed MUCH fuller compared to last year. (I'm going to apologize ahead of time as I'm awful with names.) Started off by renewing my GSNA membership. There was a deal setup right in the entrance with all sorts of books. I glanced over them quick and checked out the cases but didn't see anything that struck my fancy. We headed inside and to the left and I saw a dealer that wasn't there last year. He was speaking with someone so I just perused his cases. There was a TON of great material. Early half dimes, dimes, quarters, halves, dollars... it was great. I'm not used to seeing inventory like that (this is the biggest show I've ever been to.) I was immediately drawn to several pieces. I jotted down the grade, date and denomination to do some research later.
We continued walking along. It seemed like there was a fair bit of gold but I wasn't in the market so I didn't inquire as to prices. I was looking for rainbow toners specifically and they were in short supply. As always there was a ton of raw stuff and plenty of tables with that and nothing else. We meandered up and down the isles pausing only briefly at each table to see if there was anything special. Finding not too much else of mention (Besides the stuff William had at Numismatic Americana which was way more than I was looking to spend today) I headed back to that guy I had seen when I came in.
I stopped off at an empty table to do some research and pricing checking on HA and Ebay before I stopped. When I reached his table that guy turned out to be Brian Cushing and he's pretty damn cool. Ended up talking coins, life, sports, and all other manner of things. He showed me everything I asked about, and some that I didn't. He had some amazing material. I fell in love with a 1795 Silver Dollar which was so red it almost looked copper. I didn't even bother asking the price on it because I knew it was wayyyyy more than I'd be able to afford without a second mortgage. All of his prices were in-line with what I had researched. Brian was knowledgeable and VERY honest. I asked him flat out if he really thought the one NGC half would cross to PCGS and he flat out told me no way. I agreed.
So even though it was a littler higher than I wanted to go I ended up pulling the trigger on an 1891-S Seated Quarter in PCGS AU58. It was actually the first coin I wrote down when I walked in. Ended up paying $350. The pictures don't do it justice. The sun was going down by the time I got home and I can't take solid pictures without it. Ended up packing it in after that but Brian had said that this was his first time at the GSNA and wasn't planning on returning but had done so well that he figured he'd probably be making the trip again. Overall I think Tom Hyland put together an amazing show. I had a great time! Thanks for reading folks!

Glad you had a good time at the show.
The GSNA show is generally a good show - the floor traffic never looks heavy, but the dealers come back year after year.
I'm sorry to be missing the show this year (first time in at least a decade)!

Glad you had fun!

SeaEagleCoins: 11/14/54-4/5/12. Miss you Larry!
I remember when it was held in Pennsauken for a few years near the old Pennsauken Mart. If I remember correctly that's when the Jersey income tax people were harassing folks, anyone else remember that, I think it effectively killed shows in south Jersey for a while.

<< <i>Nice report! I had too much to do and had to skip this year
Glad you had fun! >>
I was actually looking for you! The only person from the forums I spotted last year.
Glad you all enjoyed my write-up and I appreciate the compliments on the quarter. The toning looks so much better than it appears in the pictures. A lot of colors in there.

Much quieter today, which is usual, although a friend of mine purchased something neat OTC today that came out of the blue.
Tomorrow my wife and girls are going to the show to help out at the registration table, and to visit.
Nice quarter, by the way.

<< <i>If you're there Sunday, you'll be all alone! (and the doors will be locked.) >>
Thanks Dave . When I saw the show listed another place I thought it said 4 day.
I will be there Sat.
