I am a Novice dealer and need some honest expertise on the key areas to focus on to determine the difference between VG+/F- when looking at 1938d Walkers. Seller has about 100 of them!!! image

Frankly, I wouldn't get hung up on such a subtle grade difference for this coin. Bid is $60 in VG8 and $80 in F12.
Bear in mind you can find 38D's priced back of Bid, and if I was offered such a large lot, I would sort out and discount any
problem coins with rim bumps, scratches, etc. then guesstimate a price on the rest, say $60 ea for the rest, knowing
you may lose or break even on the lower grade (VG) ones, and make some money on the higher grade (Fine) coins.

I do love PCGS Photograde, but I am just a blockhead!!! Look at the pics for VG10 & F12. Takes years of practice to be able to judge the difference IMO

Thank you Walkerguy that does help me! I am learning that every buy is different and the more I buy the more I learn. Getting a crash coarse is definitely fun and sometimes very expensive too!

Looking at those photos, many of those are a toss-up. Some of the VG10's have slightly more detail than the F12 coins pictured.
I like to supplement the detail with the rim sharpness on these lower grade coins. You should have a fairly sharp rim, particularly on the left side
of the reverse, to be at a full Fine.
It's a lot more art than science - you just want to be in the ballpark of what the generally accepted, rational person would grade
them. Bear this in mind when you go to sell, too. Best of luck with your endeavor!
