2013 $50 Gold Eagle Proof Error! Die Crack or Struck Thru?

On Thursday May 2, I received 18 - 2013 Four Coin Gold Eagle Proof sets. While I was getting the coins ready to submit to NGC, I noticed one of the $50 - one ounce coins, had what appeared to be a "die crack" error around 11:00 on the obverse. The coin has been graded as "Struck Thru." To the best of my knowledge, there are no die crack errors on proof gold eagles. The US Mint has a certain level of quality control , but from time to time errors do make it out. The US Mint sells 20,000 individually as well as another 20,000 as part of the 4 coin set.
Some of you may remember that I also discovered the "2007 $100 Platinum American Eagle Frosted Freedom coin." This is my second discovery in 30 months and hopefully won't be my last. I no longer am the owner of the coin as I traded it to the owner of the 2007 $50 Platinum American Eagle Frosted Freedom coin. To date, only one $100, $50, and $25 have been discovered. There are still 11 - $100, 20 - $50, and 20 - $25 still out there. On another side note, I am no longer employed by Moderncoinmart as I resigned as of March 1, 2013. I do still do side work for them as a consultant and we are on good terms. I will be attending the show in New Orleans Thursday through Saturday. If anyone one of you will be attending, I'd love to meet you all.

No Way Out: Stimulus and Money Printing Are the Only Path Left
<< <i>Please note the line in between "L" and "I" in LIBERTY... >>
Was it struck though a piece of lint

It's also interesting to see NGC awarding 70's again to mint errors as they had stopped for a few years since a coin with a flaw couldn't be considered perfect.

<< <i>After reviewing the coin, I called NGC to ask them to change the grade to a "69" which was the appropriate course of action. The serial # will stay the same... >>
Well done, sir!
Mistakes happen and the important thing is getting it right to the TPG system and for the collector.
