Coin shop finds

FlatwoodsFlatwoods Posts: 4,247 ✭✭✭✭✭
I spent a couple hours at a shop yesterday. The owner of the shop decided to go to an appointment only arrangement
a year or so ago.
He may lose a little business because of it but it is much nicer. We spent two hours talking about coins, fishing, gardening and whatever
else came up. It was a dramatic difference from the days when people were constantly walking in for one reason or another.
He enjoys it much more as well.
I even had time to look through some boxes as we talked!! In the past it was so hurried, I never spent much time looking
through his inventory.
Here's the haul. Some I did well on, others maybe not. These are all raw. It was well worth the visit though.

<< <i>i would love that bust half! just a rim bump away from perfection >>

I had it pegged as a quarter but I don't know.

It's a half and it's not a rim bump just bad pics and editing. image

Dealer can operate as he sees fit - OP enjoyed himself and nice bought coins too. Why the negativity?

Odd that you wish he goes out of business.

That is a bizarre wish, perhaps best left unspoken.
As a collector - I will buy from (almost) anyone if they have what I seek.

While I love the 1807 half, I have to admit, the toning on the 1897 Morgan is wild, and not. Nice pick-ups! And, I must add, he can run his business anyway he wishes....it's his to run. If his decisions cause a negative, oh well.....if everything comes up roses, so be it. Just make sure he keeps giving you MORE opportunities like this!!!
    I'll come up with something.

Thanks for the replies folks. I enjoy these as much as any purchases in recent history.
    Just nice collectible coins.
The pics were through 2x2's so not as good as I'd hoped. Just too lazy to remove them on this dreary, rainy, day.

Nice pick-ups and I think the photos are plenty fine.
If I could get just one, it would be the 1807 half.
It is frustrating when you don't get to spend the quality time you'd like with a dealer.

I like 'em all, and think you did great! Thank you for sharing. Your pics look good too. I have the hankering to be able to take a few decent pics and share some memories of a few of my visits to shops and shows with all of you also. But until I learn how to do a good job with pics I will be content to enjoy all the ones that are posted here.

Nice pickups. On that 1897 Morgan, it appears at first glance as if Ms. Liberty is wearing sunglasses image
  • Sounds like a great day with terrific finds. Your pics look real nice as well.

Love the '87 $1. The 1807 looks like the rim has been filed. image Hope I'm wrong. I suck at photo interpretation.

edited to add: Informed by the OP that what I though was filing around the rim nick obv. 1:00 is reflection from a 2X2. At very small cost to my ego (I suck at photo interpretation) someone doesn't lose money. I can work with thatimage
