NGC Coins in the Registry Here???

Just read a post ATS that NGC coins were going to be allowed in the PCGS registry. Does anyone know any more about this or is it just a rumor?

    Many years ago DH said this would happen some day. Peoples perceptions and preferences can change over time. Even grading companies standards can vary over time. Currently I'm convinced that the majority of numismatists do not view these two products equally. This could generate lots of controversy, For example : how do you fairly weight coins that grade differently at each company? I vote no! image

    It would be a profitable venture for PCGS to re-examine NGC coins that don't cross and for an additional fee assign a registry grade to them - upon which they could be entered onto the PCGS Set Registry at the newly assigned grade.

    But I won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen....

    Seems like a good idea to me, but I don't expect it to be popular with many forum members. Working in the field of engineering I've learned that it's much easier to be critical than to come up with creative solutions. image

    You can add NGC coins to your PCGS registry INVENTORY, but not the SETS. That may explain the confusion over what you heard.

    If - and I know this is a big "if" for many of you fellas - if there were no awards for the top registry sets than none of this would matter. We could showcase our favorite coins, and complete sets just as we do today, only without the competition. Then nobody would care if the NGC slabs were weighted equally.

    I know the above scenario will never happen for a variety of reasons. Just daydreaming image I really don't wanna have to pay to cross my NGC slabs just so that I can have all my coins in the same registry set.

    There would still be competition. The awards are not that significant. A piece of paper for the blue award, and a plaque for the gold award. The awards themselves are not enough motive to get the competive juices flowing.

    Without being more explicit, the differences in grading standards between PCGS and NGC are significant.

    The present "PCGS graded coins only" Registry methodology is working just fine. No fixes are needed.

    Anyone who wants to add their NGC graded coins need only cross them into PCGS holders.

    Like I said I understand your reasons and agree with them mostly. And yet ICCS is still preferred by Canadian folks, and NGC is still preferred by European folks. All I want is to share my complete type sets, etc. with friends, without having to build a website and re-upload images and all the data ...

    If PCGS ever allowed NGC or other TPG coins in their registry, I would no longer participate. I have looked at thousands of NGC graded Washington Quarters, and a miniscule percentage are graded to the standard of our sponsors.

    What would be very cool and this is somthing I have already suggested and that would to have a Non-competitive Registry that includes PCGS and NGC coins for collectors interested in coins and not plastic- sort of a contrarian approach that would play well among Main Street collectors

    That is correct for US Coins- World coins slabbed by PCGS are no longer permitted on the NGC Registry
