Roosevelt guys - When is a "Pointed 9" not a Pointed 9?

Help me out here...
I recently bought a 1964 "pointed nine" set from a seller on e-bay who shall for the moment remain unnamed.

I paid a premium for the set - because.... as we know - "pointed 9" sets include AH Kennedys. well... I ask you -
is this a pointed nine? The set sure as heck doesn't have an AH Kennedy in it, and that sucker looks decidedly
"squared off" to me.

I called the seller on it - and it's not going too well at this point. (no pun intended)

So - am I a noob that just doesn't know squat, or is the dealer up in the night?
I'd sure appreciate some clarification....

It's not a pointed 9 dime. GREAT pic, though!

    Robert,

Here's what a pointed 9 should look like:

Note how the tail on the nine is sharp, rather then squared off as it is in Dan's.

Heheh... thanks guys. I didn't even try to do it well... just close-up.

The "pointed nine" is the coin on the right. Note the flattened right side, and the pointed tail.
The one on the left is an inset of the one I just got.

AAAAAAAH! (annoying buzzer noise) WRONG! It's not pointed.

    Edit:
Russ' shot is a FAR better example of the comparison. These are both shot through the cello.

Here's a side by side of mine and Dan's:

That makes it a bit easier to see the difference.

hmmm... I can see a whole new "Russ-esque" Ebay listing coming up. image

heck - I may even ask the Master write it for me. Something suitably...
what was the word they used? Gratuitous?

    edit:
    hmmm... let's see.

MONSTER squared-off pointed 9 dime. L@@K! RARE MINT ERROR!
Set includes MONSTER un-accented Accent-Hair Kennedy!

I don't recall if I mentioned this in the other thread or not, but I believe the varieties are referred to as "pointed" as you have described or "blunt".

I do wonder if each set that contains a pointed 9 does actually guarantee an AH Kennedy Half though. I imagine they are intermixed just as the Type 1 and 2 coins in the 1979 proof sets - luck of the draw.

    So what is a raw PF65 - 1964 pointed 9 worth?
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?

Hey Coulport, Did you try removing any spots yet?
You can fool man but you can't fool God! He knows why you do what you do!
