Dime references for varieties?

I know a lot about nickle varieties and it is getting harder and harder to find them. I want to venture into the DIME world. I know some of the major ones but starting at the earliest all the way up to rossies, what variety reference books would be good to start studying?

Thanks

Besides the Cherrypickers guide, I use "The Authoritative Reference on Roosevelt Dimes" by Kevin Flynn.

Many doubled dies are listed with lots of photos. ALso some repunched mint marks.

Here is a link to the Amazon listing Here but you may find it for less on other venues.

Early United States Dimes by Davis, Logan, Lovejoy, McCloskey and Subjack for Drape and Bust dimes.

Brian Greer's book on Seated Dimes.

David Lawrence's book on Barber dimes.

David Lange's book on Mercury Dimes.

Richard's Roosies for Roosevelt's, which is on line.

The Gerry Fortin list of varieties is very very intense. In other words the difference might be the date position or die cracks. He probably has an average of 20-30 different varieties for every single date and mm.

You would do well to find all of the varieties that Brian Greer lists.

Tony, do you plan on venturing into the Mercury Dime Complete Variety Set? If so, Dimeman and I can help you out if you ever have questions. I'm trying to put together a book that I want to finish this summer if I can...most likely an eBook of sorts...I'm not sure yet. It will correct A TON of information in the Cherrypickers' Guide, that's the primary purpose....with more info, auction prices, bigger and better photos, side by side comparison of the variety with the normal, corrected rarity information.....all stuff the the CPG lacks or has wrong information on...then if I have an electronic version I can update the darn thing at any time so you are certain to have the latest a greatest info on the Merc Varieties etc. To really put finishing touches on the book I need the 5MP Dino-Lite Camera and a few dimes to find and photograph but that's it.

Good luck in your new adventure! image

David Lange's Mercury Dime Book is Hosted Online Here!
You can buy a copy or just use the online reference from time to time like I do.

    Get This Book Too!
I had ordered it from Rick Snow, forum member, but he is out of stock. Be careful to get this one with this cover as there are older versions. This is the most recent from 2005.

The Treasure Hunting Book is fantastic. There are 8 different DDOs shown for 1936!!! That is crazy. I have 2 or 3 different ones. Anyway, with any book that is 8 years old there will be a few things missing or called one thing but then called something else in another book etc but the book is awesome, such an eye opener for the series. It is fun to find things that are in this book but not mentioned in the CPG. And then it is even more fun to find NEW varieties that are not in ANY resource! I think fcloud (Tony) did this twice....he used to have the top Merc (non-FB) Complete Variety Set before he sold most of his stuff last year. Keep us in the loop with regards to your fun finds! image
