.
<< <i>I believe mine is F15 or VF20. I tried to post my first picture using photobucket but I couldn't get it to work. >>
post the links, even if they don't work. there have been many instances i could retrieve the proper link for image(s)
it would help if so many albums weren't private and no i'm not trying to start a debate about it for anyone reading
.
Let me know if you can get it to work.
there is some nice meat left on that sucker
.
<< <i>So I guess you don't think it is a true 2 feather? >>
i don't think that it isn't at all
the nice meat comment is that with the exception of 1 other, most of these (i have seen) are low grade
it is not mistakable as not being a 2 feather, except by those that have no idea what they are doing
.
<< <i>Any opinion on what my 1917-S is worth? >>
whatever i would estimate would be cut in half only having seen half the coin
.
Edited to add:
Hopefully Ron Pope (Koynekwest) will chime in soon- he is truly the expert on these and wrote the book about them.
Here's the reverse.
Thought I'd look at Heritage Auctions, to compare my 1917-S with recently sold coins. There were two "2 feathers" sold last year, an XF 45 on December 1 and a VG10 in April, and both PCGS Variety Attributed as FS 401 2 Feathers.
To me, both of those nickels look similar to mine- clean near the neck, a little bit of "stuff" back toward the big feather. The XF45 sold on December 1 for $3290, and looks pretty much identical to mine in the "3rd feather" area.
I may have to send this one in to our hosts........

Here is a price guide but was updated in 2011.
Sadly I don't have photographic equipment, so I can't post an image. Question: in September, the Whitman Expo will be in Philadelphia. Is there any dealer likely to be attending that show who speciallizes in these, and would be willing to give me an opinion on whether it's a true two feather or not?
Thanks!
