I just picked this up from one of the local B&M's - Alexander the Great Tetradrachm. This was bought by some guy in 2005 for over $1,000 in a dainty 14k bezel... my dealer friend removed the bezel and scrapped it - i bought the coin and all the paperwork. It looks like the guy bought it from NBC?
What is it worth?

It was a posthumous issue, which this one would also be if the "Circa 200 BC" notation is accurate.
Is this coin worth a thousand bucks? No way, Jose- not in my opinion. With the addition of a nice gold bezel? Maybe, in a longshot, if somebody liked it enough (And I guess at least one person did, back in 2005).
Since you got it without the gold bezel, I'm assuming you paid way less than the original purchaser did.
Weird, mushy strike on that one. It doesn't automatically raise any red flags with me about it potentially being fake, but who knows. The clumpy loss of detail in Alexander's hair and the slightly odd looking rendering of Zeus on the reverse do look a bit unusual to my (admittedly only semi-experienced) eye. But these were struck a long time after Alexander's death, and in a lot of places that were part of his former empire, so I'm sure some variations of style are to be expected.
It isn't a terrible looking coin, by any means. Lots of nice detail and actually pretty nice grade, if one takes the striking irregularities into account.

I sold a much nicer posthumous Alexander tetra also with a COA , 6 months ago on the Bay for $350.
If you put it on eBay with all that stuff in the pics,it might do very well.

In hand it looked a lot better than my pictures. Very high grade details with a little luster in the protected areas. It weighed out at 16.9 grams - it is real.
The guy I bought it from scraped the bezel for $150... He sold me the coin with the paperwork and book all for $20!

At that price level, YOU SUCK!!!
I'm not a raving fan of this coin at the presumed $300-350 price level, but considering what you paid (an obscene steal, IMHO), and what I would potentially offer you, were you willing to sell or swap it, I can say I'd happily pay you many multiples of what you got it for!
If you don't feel like eBay-ing it, do shoot me a PM. Or if you do put it on eBay in true auction format, I would bid on it.

NGC Ancients received my recent nine-coin submission on the 18th, so I too have begun the waiting game.
Did you send any other stuff to ANACS? I prefer NGC these days, for the expanded strike/surface designations and obverse/reverse descriptions on their front label. They manage to pack a lot of information in there without it being cluttered. The technical grades themselves are secondary to me. I mostly slab my ancients to have a second opinion on authenticity and for display purposes.
