Were these part of any other mint sets in 2012? I think it was mainly the 2012-S Sets... The 2012 Annual Dollar Sets are still available.
Agreed, could be another lowest mintage other than the 100k 2011 special strikes.

I don't think the Dollar sets had limits -- but can't imagine they were struck in any great numbers. I don't recall what the previous mintages were for those.
Thanks to 2many OP for the head's up. Decided to pick up a few in OGP before they go dark...

Is it typical to show "available for shipping..." before going dark? I bought a few dozen 2012-W in MS70 FS in anticipation of a new semi-key. Looks like it'll be no worse than 6th in the ASE world:
XA3 sets are still available -- the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

Last weeks Mint report showed 17,771 XA3 sets being sold (will be updated soon). Plus 197, 711 12-W's sold = 215,482 mintage THUS FAR.
The estimate of 220k may be fairly accurate if PB is correct with his 20k number. Hmmmmm XA3 sets might be a good bet...

<< <i>I seem to remember that was what they sold of the 1st 2 sets but I could be wrong.
If that is what it was then these sets will sell out this week. >>
I don't see anything about mintage limits for these sets on The Mint web site. If there were such a limit I would think that it would be on the site. We may be celebrating too soon...
If they only made 200K of the feature coin and are just now putting up the sold sign I doubt if the made more than 10% of that amount of sets which they had trouble selling in 2007 and 2008.
Yes, these are included as part of the 2012 Dollar Coin Sets which have reported sales of 17,489 and which are still available form the US Mints Web Site.
Well, unless your really into the packaging of the individual coins that is.
I see at least 213,790 sold excluding whats in inventory in the Dollar Sets which do not appear to have any mintage limits.
A word of caution to those buying the uncirculated dollar sets.
The ASE will be raw with no box or COA which will impact resale unless you plan to submit for grading.
ASE boxes and COAs will likely be available but at $5 range.
Also consider the combined total of 200,000 boxed coins plus 20K in the sets approaches the final mintage of the 2012-S 2 coin sets which sell for a modest $25 +/- premium over issue price.
All and all a lot of effort for what will likely be a very modest gain at best.

If they end up in the 220K range MS70s may do well. MS70s now seem to be going for nearly $100 however so buying 70s now may have little upside.
But.......if thats what the public "believes" then I guess thats whats needed. I mean, its not like its the King of Siam Mint Packaging so I just do not understand the perceived importance of mint packaging over the actual coin or mintage of the piece.
How did things get so screwed up anyway??
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
Definitely upside for MS70FS if one bought them pre-back order/going dark or had one's own coins graded. I meant that I see little upside for those buying MS70FS coins now, at the current prices.
Anything under 500,000 is nowadays considered semi key. On the other hand, these are not circulation coins. A 1982 MS-60 Washington Quarter would get you a better return - if you found one in change.

An MS60 1982 Washington? You can;t be serious with what you just said.

I bought 5- 2012-W burnished Eagles from Provident on Tuesday. They called me yesterday and said they should not have sold these to me as they were out of stock (they were live on their website at the time of ordering as with everything they have IN stock).
Hmmmm. I guess they got word that they were sold at the Mint.......
@ Elite CNC Routing & Woodworks on Facebook. Check out my work. Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
PCGS prices the 2011-S in MS70FS at $450, 8101 graded. The 2012-W is priced $90 in MS70FS, 2642 graded. I think it has some room to run and won't be surprised if it top $250.

2011-S - 100,000 mintage and key to the burnished series 2012-W - 220,000 mintage (approx) and rising every day
Apples vs. oranges.
And, I am not saying that I do not like the 2012-W silver eagles.. I am just pointing out why the "pops" are not directly linked to the prices referred to.
As always, just my 2 cents.

The pop for the other (W) Stuck at West Point is something like 12K and price guide is $115???
I'm finding the ASE to be a very interesting series and am not at all bothered by the number of special issue sets or the milk spots. If milk spots are a worry, just buy encapsulated 70's so that you have a spot guarantee. If plastic isn't your game, buy them from the Mint and give them a good acetone bath, put them back in the AirTite, and store them with a Dry-Pack and they should be fine.

Wondercoin -- I assume that was a typo and you "like" the 2012-W, yes? I realize the 2011-S and 2012-W isn't a great comparison, but the 12-W is the 3rd lowest mintage in the burnished ASE world (if you count the 08/7 variety). That said, I believe the 2011-S has room to run too and would (and have) bought at current prices.
It's amazing how many listings on Ebay are titled "2012 W" when, in fact, the coins are 2012 (W). I wonder how many people have paid big $ for the (W) coins having no idea of the difference between them and the burnished ones.
I find the (W) coins just irritating. A total marketing ploy by the tpgs.
As for the XA3 sets, I can't imagine that many were produced to keep selling too much longer. Sales will pick up now that the singles have sold out at low levels.

The low so far in the burnished series is the 2011-S at 100k.
The annual dollar sets are still available at the Mint's website for $59.95. Is there an issue limit? The website description does not show one.

#1-1995-W proof = 30K
#2-2008/7 = 47K
#3/4-2011-S & RP = 100K
#5-2012-W = ~220K
#6-2012 RP = 225K
#7-2006 RP = 249K
#8-2012-S proof = ~281K
#9-1994 proof = 372K

The mintage of the 2012-W is 220k or more, so while it might have some upside from the current price of ~$55, I think that upside will be limited.

Sure that peak is only 1 sale but try finding 1 now in PCGS MS70 for $100.
They were quickly snapped up in quantity within a few days. I see lots of upside for the PCGS FS coins in both 69 and 70.
Edit: and now another 70 sold at $190
