tooling around with my camera
I find the closeups of the engraving fascinating on it's own, you can see where the physical act engraving disturbed the metal around the formed letters, and probably where the engraving was largely done under controlled circumstance and the name maybe at a later date? maybe on-site? I could be over-reading that.

8 Reales Madness Collection
When it was posted before, I seem to recall doing some Googling and discovering some geneaological info on the original owner, whose name is on there?
It's a beautiful design. I love that Gilded Era stuff with ladies in diaphonous, billowing drapery.
When I was a teenager, my parents had some old Sterling flatware with female figures like that on the handles. We actually used it daily. When guests came over, my stepmother used to joke about "our R-rated silverware".
I would not be at all surprised if the engraving was done a bit later than the medal was struck.
What would be really interesting would be if one encountered a similar medal with very different engraving, from another location entirely.
I see from the initials by the stems of the wreath that this piece grades "BU".
