if they were the same date/mm I'd say perhaps a die flaw(metal or something stuck to the die) but since they aren't I suspect it's just an incomplete, weak strike.

Yes it kinda looks like yours, but I don't think mine is due to die polishing.

if it were die deterioration the defect on the struck planchet would appear as raised metal, the coins as shown are missing metal in the affected area.

So I guess the first thing we need to determine is if we have missing metal on the coin or extra metal on the coin.

Yup. This coin was struck by a die that has been in service for awhile and is nearing the end of its useful service life.

What's goin on here with his chin? Please ignore the dark streak and the hit on the chin and look underneath. Double chin? Does not appear to be PMD. I also see something at the forehead and maybe the back of the head too. Is this die bouncing that I saw mentioned in another thread?
