The luster is mostly around the edges on the obverse, and a bit more pronounced on the reverse, maybe a mild cartwheel. It looks like it just sat around all these years after being plucked from circulation.

I like the look! The seated design has really grown on me. The matron design has as well. Initially I hated them, but now I have great affection for both. Strange how one's collecting interests evolve.

Looks like original skin to me. I can see the luster coming through in multiple areas...I like it! I think that AU53, 55 and 58 represent the best "bang for the buck" (particularily AU58), and can often be much nicer than low grade uncs with ugly marks all over the place.

Nice coin with thick patina. Would fit great in my VF to MS63 collection too! Not all slabbed AU Seated halves retain their original skin. I have seen many that looked cleaned, which graded out despite bright white surfaces. Buyer beware in this series.
