It's absolutely the principle on this one.

Is it remotely possible that only 4 coins got shipped due to some unforseen error?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

So if you send that eBayer's extortive comments to eBay will they remove any negatives that might get left?

Yes, if you forward the appropriate comments/ emails with headers etc. to Ebay and they agree that it is indeed feedback extortion then FB from that user is removed. That's the way it's SUPPOSED to work anyhow...your mileage may vary.

  • Refunded $10 and surprised by his feedback no surprises! Lee I did offer him a full refund if he returned the 4 he received, all he wanted was a discount IMO.

Reasonable question. Buyer's feedback seems pretty solid.

At least it was only $10. Sorry to read of the trouble.

Some of his FBs are from multiple transactions from the same person.

Just for discussion purposes... let's say this guy actually got all 5 coins and just did this as a back door way of getting a discount. If I wanted to do this and not draw attention to myself I'd leave a nice positive just as he did. And, since sellers can't leave a negative, or even a "soft positive"... there's virtually no way the casual observer would know that's what he is doing. Right?

<< <i>how is it that he has 60 positive feedbacks but only a 50 rating? it doesnt show any negatives... >>

when buyers leave feedback for a bulk purchase of 2 items or more the number only increases by 1. so the number you see and the total number of feedback can be different by thousands

There is considerable difference in the weight of 4 vs 5 silver dollars, you should be able to verify how many coins you actually shipped by the weight of your package.

Not really that good of a day to meet a cheater and get cheated on.
  • Personally after 15 years on Ebay and countless bad buyers I have come to the conclusion that many other sellers here have on this forum.....in most cases it's not worth the hassle and the negative feedback to duke it out with these guys. Believe me on principal alone I have gone out on my shield numerous times and in the end whether it be a feedback ding, case filed against me, low DSR ratings...the buyers almost always come out ahead and the seller loses. I had giving in to extortion either FB or money but every time I have fought a buyer....Ebay sides with them....it's pathetic and it really pisses me off but unfortunately it is the cost of doing business on Ebay. image

This is absolutely correct. The price of "appeasing random idiots" on ebay is just like inflation- a hidden tax on the price of doing business there.

I agree, but unfortunately, this poster has a habit of making comments such as these.

I had a buyer do this to me once. Claimed he got an empty package. I insured the packaged ($70). I told the buyer I needed a photo of his empty package and he refused to send one, so I could not file a claim. I told him I would refund, I just need a photo to file the claim. He opened a case, Paypal found in his favor. I raised a rucus, and Paypal gave me back my money. Buyer left me negative feedback. I am sorry to say, but his package was certainly not empty. He was a scum newby trying to take advantage and did not realize I bought the insurance and he would have been busted for mail fraud.

  • you have to look at this from both sides. If you found a purchase as this to be short changed so to speak, would you not be looking for either another equal value coin or a refund ? Who's to say what happened or whether or not either the seller or buyer is playing scam games. It very well could have been an honest mistake when packaging or a piece may have escaped the packaging in transit. My suggestion to the seller is, communicate with your buyer and come to an agreeable conclusion. No need to post this nonsense on these forums and suggest others block anyone. That buyer could turn this around on you the seller as well. Handle it like an adult, not a child gathering a gang for a rumble. Don't misunderstand me, there are many scammers on both sides of the EBAY auctions. I just think that to infer either party in this situation is scamming is a bit unbelievable and to incite labeling either party as such in this case is ridiculous.

I NEVER block an ebayer unless I have seen absolute proof that something nefarious, wrong, or just plain evil minded has occured.

When I DO block an eBayer, especially due to a thread on the forums, I "bookmark" that thread for future reference and I HAVE blocked certain ebayers.

In this case, its really difficult to tell since I have no idea who the poster is other than haviong sold him a coin in 2007.
I've never heard of the buyer but his feedback looks ok.

As such, no block will occur on my end.

You should have strung him along for a few weeks; after a certain period of time, he could no longer leave feedback.

so sellers should just accept th fact that a certain percentile of buyers are dishonest, and this dishonesty will win out over any honest effort ?

even the most dishonest buyer will have perfect feedback.... until someone proves hes a crook. a seller cannot leave anything but positive feedback.

Brick and mortar establishments of all types have their fair share of random idiots. The phenom is not exclusive to ebay
