How long is to long?

I have 7 submission in now with 6 more that i'm holding to see if it lets up a bit and 4 are over 57 Days If i call every day will that help? I'am just venting

So the thinking is- if you hold off submitting, you might get them back sooner than if you sent them in now?

I sent eight coins in for "presidential review" in Aug, a couple years ago. Got them back in April the next year.

I think it's more like i have my coins by my side not siting in some dark area all alone. Or it's like having my cash in my pockets and not having my cash in some one elses pocket for 60 days. We pay 1st, If it was the other way around i bet it would be a little faster. We see this all the time in sales. I dont want to say what they call it. But once the service is done the price you will pay will not be in there faver most of the time.

Whether or not it would be faster is debatable, but one thing's for sure- it would be more expensive in order to cover the losses from people who refused to pay once their coins were graded.

What would be PCGS' remedy in that case? Sell them for grading fees? Eat the loss? Just hold them till the bill is paid? Have a forum giveaway?

Not true any more as of the first of the year your credit card is not billed until grading is done. They ship as soon as bill is paid.
Edit to add they may put a hold on the card for the amount of grading up front I am not sure as the one I use has a larger line of credit than I would ever think of using.

Do you think PCGS got behind because of the flood of submissions sent in before the price increase? I would imagine it would be very hard for them to catch up. I have three submissions I am waiting for also. Like any business that gets behind there is not much you can do except hire new people but the problem then becomes quality control. I will be happy to wait if I can get the experienced graders to grade My coins.

I too am holding back on submitting to PCGS until the turn around times come down. Why spend the money for coins I won't see come back for at least 2 months. The money could better be spent else where for now.

My econ sub of December 20th is still in progress. 4 coins, 2 with variety notations.

2 months and counting. When I submitted it was 31 days expected grading time per PCGS.

Not worried, in good hands and I'll still like them when they arrive home!

NO.... If I sent them in now I would not get them for 2 months. Why would anybody tie up several hundred dollars for two months. I could buy other coins and just add them to the current submission save more money with a single submission fee and half the postage cost in each direction. Thus cutting the turn around times on the new purchases.

Things could be worse. World economy is listed at 58 days. That means that if you mail your coins registered mail today, it could be around 4 months until you get them back.

I hate to sound cheap... no, actually, I don't mind sounding cheap.

The $25 membership drive they ran through Stacks was what got me to join, and I remained a member for several years after that. To be perfectly honest that is what it would take to get me back in the fold again.

Let me get this right. We pay more send in more and their business is doing great so we need to pay more for them to hire more graders.

OOOoooh i get it the charge is $25 for new mambers only.

I've been tracking their statistics page since they started publishing it a few years back. They were running at 120,000 coins or so (+/- 10k) for months until a few weeks into January. It picked up to about 150K mid January and ended January at 184K. It is now over 250K. The backlog has gotten worse through the year, it was not due to coins submitted last year.

I theorize with the record coins produced by the Mint that they are swamped with Modern submissions early in January and there was a huge influx of coins submitted at FUN and at Long Beach. It also appears that their World submissions are gaining traction as the wait times keep getting larger and larger there.

Is it possible that one or two graders also quit or retired? I have no insight or knowledge of this. Just a theory.

When things were at their best at CLCT a couple of years ago, their best quarter of coin submissions was 550K. They are substantially higher than that old record now.

If you want fast turnaround, do a show submission. Other than that, it makes no sense to hold off as all you are doing is starting your clock at a later time.

Are the graders union workers? When business is good, employees work longer hours. Things might be different out there, but here in WI, we make cheese EVEN on Saturday!
