I found a silver war nickel at face value today at work!

We were closing up the store when I mentioned to the manager, "You know, that nickel is colored very dark. It has a different gray tone than all of the other ones in the roll." I explained to her that it might be made of 35% silver. It was a transparent bank sleeve roll, we cracked it out, and sure enough, it turned out to be a war nickel. I scored BIG and bought it for five pennies!

Nothing quite as nice as finding silver in the wild!

Yep, they're still out there in the wild. Congrats. It's always fun to snag one, eh?

    What was the date?

Been a little while since I got a war nickel. One time I hit a stash of about three rolls or so at convenience store. Almost all war nicks.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
